A friend of mine has a black '99 or '00 Civic SiR that I never really paid much attention to however I took a ride in it last night and I was incredibly impressed. That little 1.6L packs a bit of a punch! It was mildly damp and cold outside and the car could barely get traction under full throttle. That little Honda put me back in my seat!
I've also been mentally gearing up for the upcoming AutoX season. I race my 2.5RS in STS class where there is a pretty even spread of cars, including some Hondas. My main competition is an RSX-S and some of the Integra GS-R's aren't too far behind however I never have issues beating them. After looking at the national finalists in STS in this past months SCCA magazine I couldn't help but notice something interesting. Of the 15 finalists (10 in STS and 5 in STS-Ladies) 14, yes fourteen of those cars were Civic Si's.
More specifically, 4th Gen (early 90's) Civic Si hatchbacks.
I was shocked! What is it with those cars? What did those early 90's cars come with engine-wise? What is the potential with the newer EK 99 & 00 Si's as far as AutoX goes? I've always loved the way they looked but never really took them seriously?
I guess I'm just saying I have a new respect for Honda's and wouldn't mind owning a clean Si or SiR. Anybody wanna trade for a dirty whore turbo Outback?

4th gen Si's came with the 108hp d16a6, not quick by any means. 4th gens are light and ridiculously easy to work with... ahhh, the world without airbags, ABS, and power steering.

If that b16 whale impressed you, there are a few other cars around here that you should take a ride in
EDIT: that isn't meant to start shit, I'm just saying, I can think of a few more cars that can help you take hondas seriously
This post comes with a guarantee: I guarantee that I don't care what you think about it.

I was giving compliments! And no I didn't take that B16 to be amazing however I said I was surprised and impressed by it.
And yes I know the horsepower and torque numbers on it and even my RS has more torque and a bit more horsepower however I think weight has a big deal to do with how power is delivered and how power is felt.
I'm saying that I feel the AutoX potential of these cars is impressive and I was also wondering what it is about the 4th gen SI that makes it so great at AutoX. If it is so underpowered why is it so popular. STS only allows a few basic bolt ons to the engine and requires a full interior.
Also, regarding the Si vs SiR, I don't know what the difference is at all. I was told SiR's had heated mirrors and were wingless but who knows, I'm not a Honda guy when it comes to details. Please enlighten me!

there are alot of 4th gen civic hatches in scca solo that ive seen, of those none of them were in sts, if you have an engine swap and no interior but your running street tires they wont put you in any other class except sts for point events, this coming season ill be racing with a B16 swap and several modifications that sts doesnt allow but since ill be running Falken azenis RT615's they will put me in STS and thats fine with me. all those other civics run in different classes or are racing in a different scca event, autocross has many names.

as far as Si's and Sir's, the united states only had Si's, Sir's came out in canada but they were the same as our Si's for the most part, the Sir's that most people talk about are japanese SiR's and if were talking about the same body style, like 96-00, then all civic Sir's were hatchbacks called EK4's they had alot more options than the VTi civics like power folding mirrors, B16A engine, and Navigation!! i want one haha
