Crestwood "Mall Meet"

Post by tscastello »

First off I just want to clarify that I'm not trying to step on anyone's toes at all here so if I am by all means remove the post or let me know if it's already being taken care of. I just always get pumped up come spring and try to give out as much help as I can as possible and hopefully you all see it that way :)

Okay so I have been staying in contact with the 8thcivic.com Saint Louis forum thread, and my understanding is there is no one making the calls on there anymore when it comes to meets and what not so I offered to take care of it. Anyways point being is that I was curious if anyone here would be cool with putting something together for both clubs at the same time and location. It's all Honda’s based in Saint Louis so as far as I’m concerned sounds like a good idea with no issues.

Here's some idea's I have been tossing around.

-Location: Between Belleville and Millstadt about 3 minutes away from the newer Belleville West Township Highschool.

1. My father’s house. I personally live in an apartment so that’s just not going to work but my dad has almost a 4 acre lot very nicely kept with a pretty nice shop on the property. The shop is fully outfitted, well mostly outfitted its missing a few things like a tire mounting and balancing machine but that’s apparently being ordered soon. There is a 2 post ALM lift, an oversized air compressor, crap loads of body tools, damn near anything a person could want at his home.
-Also out back is a nice size deck, grill, and lake. The lake is good for swimming and fishing. The fishing I'm not sure if any of you do but I will have to clear this with him because multiple people live on it.
-I talked to him today about it and he is cool with up to 25 people being there at once any more then that is probably going to be too many.
-Also this could be used for a good project day too. Weather wouldn't matter because the shop is heated and cooled with audio, video, and surround sound.
-----This is just an idea I had discussed today didn't really give it a whole lot of thought so let me know what you think about it.

Okay now something else I found out today that might be pretty cool... well at least it sounds good on paper.

-Location: Crestwood, MO.
A good friend of mine I found out knows the people who own Crestwood Mall. As most of you might already know Crestwood mall has seen better days, about 80% of the mall is closed with the few stores/food spread out here and there. Anyways I'm going to try to clear some more things up but the way my buddy put it is it sounds like we could get that also for a meet. You know F&F2 without the drifting in the parking garage but still holding in the parking garage lol. I don't know about this either but seeing how security still patrols the lot that can be a good thing also.
-Of course anyone driving like a moron just because we got the OK to be on the property doesn't mean we have the ok to drive recklessly so everyone will still have to mind what they do and not throw trash everywhere.

So yeah just tossing around some idea's hoping to get the year started off here in town and a few of my personal friends are willing to help organize it but any help would be nice.

I will do some more checking with him tomorrow while him and I are working on my install at my dad's house, and try to get in contact with the mall owners to clear more up.

But until then.. Ideas, comments, clear your mind!

I'm going to post this same deal on 8thcivic.com basicly a copy and paste :)

Both sound like cool ideas to me. I'm in a bit of a rush so I'll be brief.

The first is something different and I'm sure people would enjoy it. the only issue is the 25 people/car thing. That obviously puts a cap on the potential for that gathering. I do like the area for this meet as "concrete heaven" is in that area...

The second one sounds cool to me too. So is this supposed to be more of a car show kinda thing. Did you imagine it being a daytime or night time event? Perhaps get a DJ(costs money though.) My only concern about it is the probability of idiots ruining it. I'm not sure if things have changed much but there is always some body who nobody really knows ends up showing up and they want to do burnouts and shit like that. I'd be pissed if I drove way out there only to get kicked out. But if you have good enough of a connect to pull that one off, that would be really cool. I would guess Crestwood would want money though and it could be an insurance issue for them too.

The 25 person cap is only for the house, and from what I have been reading on both forums getting people to show up to anything seems to be a challenge. Not that this will be the case at all but I'm probably going to schedule something for people to get together at Bdubs or hooters for wings and beer cause thats always a good mix. depending on the show there this kinda stuff will probably come in spring due to having to be outside for the "Mall Meet" now the "house meet" could be more of an all year deal.

But like I said I want to see potential first meaning who is actually going to show so I figure start with wings and beer then move on to bigger and brighter things :)

Now as far as the "Mall Meet" I do need to clear some things up with the owners and having a DJ could be a noise problem and honestly I need to scout out the garage area. with the mall being basically out of service for the most part is the garage area even off limits? This is a question that I will have to ask them and I will probably scout it out tonight at some point just to see.

And your right there are dumb asses in every car club its just figuring out who they are, I mean hell I could be the dumb ass cause none of you know me lol. i will find out more this weekend hopefully.

Was thinking like a once a month on the House meet and Mall meet but a bi-weekly / weekly beer and wings meet. weekly gets out of people's price range if ur tight with money so it might end up being bi-weekly.

-Again just thinking outloud so I can get comments

Yeah I gotcha on that, I seen something on this in a post the other day on here I just noticed not many showed up anymore for some reason. Like you said though probably just because its cold. If thats the case lets just look at the larger scale meets that are probably a good idea for spring/summer/fall.

I am really digging the idea of the mall meet if you can make that happen. I think the frequency of the meet would be based solely on how much people enjoy it. If you start by weekly or monthly and its a hit, people will show up more often.

Okay so while I was out today doing my install on the springs I decided to stop by the Crestwood mall parking garage area to scout it out and take some pictures. Unfortunatly because I had forgotten to take my digital camera with me the picture quality isn't the greatest but its good enough to get an idea so I took with with my iPhone 3g.
While my buddy and i were installing the springs I brought up the whole car show/meet idea with him and apparently seeing how he has a lot of connections in Crestwood its going to probably be a pretty easy hook up on the property. Probably going to be a free deal, wont have to rent it out or anything. Only way it could cost would be if we had vendors and if it gets big enough some day yeah that will probably happen. Thing is even if that happens i wont even have to deal with that crap it will be the vendors dealing with the owners so I could care less.

So yeah I'm still working on some more details but I want to keep everyone in the loop in my open mind thinking process on this so any thoughts or ideas would be appretiated like always :)

Here are some pictures that I took to give you an idea of where I think would be a good location in the garage.
---------
This one is on the 3rd floor looking down.

This one is inbetween the 3rd and 2nd floor on the Stairs.
Image

This one is just a shot of what I think is part of Dillards these railings would be nice for advertisement signs and backdrops maybe a hosted by signs and what not.
Image

And finally a pic of the stairs I was standing on in one of the earlier pictures.

So yeah I dunno but I think its a kinda cool area plus the fact we still have the garage location yet still getting the sunlight, and if there is bad weather we could always move inside the garage to get out of the rain if there is any at all. Plust it would be a pretty good setup because you can check out all the cars from above on the other floors good for photo's of the event. I might also have a professional photographer on hand to take pictures of people and their vehicles for a price. I would say for free but I can't make promises on that one ;).

So like always idea's, comments, opinions always welcomed!
