poss speed senor problems

Post by civicex442 »

here recently i have been having some troubles with my speedo. it jumps all over the place, says im goin 155 when i am doing 80. it pretty much has a mind of its own. i have made some changes recently like new si cluster and different chipped ecu, but everything worked just fine for atleast a few weeks and didnt have a problem until i removed the speed sensor in the transmission to install a new motor mount. it was giving me a rough time in the limited amount of space so i took it out hoping to not brake anything. well... my question is 1) is there any kind of calibration needed when removing and installing one of these 2) did i loose any parts such as a washer or anything that may cause the sensor not to ground or such 3) anyone know anyone that has one laying around that wants to let me try it out to see if it works for me because the dealership want 150ish for it at wholesale cost. f that. i have one off of a 92--95 civic dx, but it looks different. mine is off of a 97 gsr tranny. any info would be super helpful and i will continue to diagnose my problem further tomorrow by trying a stock ecu and possibly throwing in the old cluster just to make sure there is no confusion

Check your wiring first. I have a 93 dx, I replaced the cluster thinking that it was the cluster, and my speed was still off. I even replaced the VSS(which did go bad), and my speed was still off.

It was actually the wiring in the clip attached to the VSS. You may have pulled it loose. The harness has 3 little plugs. If you get anything in there, or it corrodes or gets loose, you might as well go get a used one from the salvage yard.

I would check that first before you go back and starting changing things.
