Wow I hope there is an Expo 10 next year. I wanted to go so bad this year but buying a house owned me. Looks like one heck of a good time.

Clayton - That was fun getting your call after the event, brought back all that enthusiasm I had after my first events
You def had a great first experience and lapping the back of the pack is how an Instructor knows the skill level is a mismatch for the current run group and why you got bumped up to next level ... personally not in favor of letting novices solo, but you must have had the confidence of your Instructor or he wouldn't let you do it
Seeing the close ups of your tires ... I'd be looking at your tire pressures and technique ... that's a pretty dramatic thermal beating they took ... perhaps too much throttle while understeering comes to mind ... what cold tire pressure did you start with and did you check what they came up to after sessions?
Anywho's, great job ... and to think a few weeks ago you didn't know to heel & toe! You mentioned you pulled that of at the track and yeah, as a "novice' that catches an Instructor's attention ... not sure I woulda suggested that for your first time, but as you saw, Autobahn has really good run off room in most places as a "just in case", not like Gateway here
Will look forward to seeing you at Gateway ... hey, if can't swing entering the BMW event, if you want, you're welcome to come out and just hang out, could probably get some "orientation rides" ...let the organizers know you're considering doing an event and they may work that in for ya'
You could meet me at my house and then drive down together

tire pressure i checked to make sure they were at or somewhere close to recomendations when the where cold and they bumped up about 5 psi when they were hot. i am sure technique had a huge roll into the demise of the tire. ill admit i tried to enter some corners faster and faster and did try to throttle steer as the understeer became evident so ill blame my technique mostly.
i have a wedding i am an usher in on the 13th at threee oclock so i may just follow you up there and watch sunday. fml why do i have to be a good friend id love to be in this event.

Your tires were over inflated ... look at side edge of the tread, hardly any of that got worked

that very first picture i thought, shoot that looks like autobahns buildings.
i have a very firm love/hate for that track. it saw two of my engines spin a bearing (one of which broke a rod and spun through the lower cradle like butter).
autobahn north imo is a very fast short track. only a couple places i really have to hit the brakes.
tires looked like they had fun!
