intake manifold question

Post by civic97hx »

ok well im thinkin about doin just a mild build on the engine when i tear it apart to rebuild it anyway, im mainly lookin for some low end torque, i like not having to downshift to 4th on the interstate just to pull a hill, i just wanna feel the power a little more is all.... so what would u suggest i do to get that torque?

stock engine with 8psi from a rhb5, 14b, t25, or something else similiar in size. :)

other than that, its a honda, you wont have torque. just make sure you dont put in a b series, they have less torque than the d series. oh and also dont put in a lighter than stock flywheel, you'll lose torque there if you do.

but if youre going for just a mild n/a build, i would suggest either a 60-62mm throttle body, d16y8 or edelbrock intake manifold, all port matched.

Im still learning on the whole honda thing, so any help would be very helpful! thanks all in advance :D

look you come on here and ask for help we give you CORRECT information on how to make your car perform better and because we did not tell you that your 68mm TB mod was the next best thing to apple pie you get all butt hurt.

well check it this is my car

i think i understand or know a thing or two about SOHC and how to make them run correctly.

The info that was givin by myself and steve would help get your car to the CORRECT starting point square 1. You wanted info about another mod when you already have one mod that put you in the wrong direction and will continue to hurt the performance of the car untill you fix it.

My car runs 14.8 in the 1/4 and you wanna know my set up is STOCK y8 iintake manifold (60.00 almost anywhere on the web) port matched to a 58MM LS TB (like 20.00 anywhere on the web) Both of these are more then enuff for what your planning on doing unless your going big hp and big boost, which they will still work fine (because i am going big boost and big hp) but there might be more efficient set up out there

Adding more airflow into your motor WILL not make more power unless you swap to a better flowing head SO the only way ANY mod will help you is to do a vtec head swap, So source a y8 head, intake manifold and p2p ecu do the swap and enjoy the added 30hp you will get over stock.

last dont get all uptight because we gave advice and it was not what YOU wanted to hear, and remember this is a open community website which means when we answer questions others may ask more questions is response to starting a discussion in any thread at anytime .

this means that selling that 68mm throttle body could fund buying both an intake manifold and a throttle body that will give you some torque back... not only have we given you advice about what to buy and why to buy it, but we showed you how to do it at no cost to you.

it all depends on your hp/tq goals, how much youre willing to spend, if you want the car as a reliable daily driver, weekend only/track only car.

if youre wanting a decent amount of hp/tq increase without going bankrupt, turboing a d series is a good route. if you want something that is a little different, n/a d series is possible, but your going to spend an arm and a leg for the same amount or less amounts of gain as you would get if you were just to turbo it.

if you stay n/a, you will have to get higher compression pistons and build the bottom end. you will want to build the head, or at least get a different cam. then theres different companies with different "stages" of cams. you will have to research and look around for what would suit you best.

and then if you decide that you want to go turbo, you can either keep a stock engine or build it. stock engines can hold roughly 200whp without problems, and you want to build the engine, you have to decide do you want to go with a budget build(vitara pistons) or more conventional method(forged pistons). building the head or even just getting a cam with turboing is not necessary, but then if you are going all out and money is no problem, you will have to do the research on what you want. porting and polishing isnt necessary unless youre going all out. there is no such thing as a slight porting or mild porting with honda heads, there is only all out porting. ive talked to several local machinists and they say that slight porting and even some mild porting actually hurt the heads performance.

i would suggest for you to figure out what your hp/tq goals are, how much youre willing to spend, if you want to stay d series, and if you want to go n/a or force inducted.

put a different cam in his head and it will flow just as good if not better than a vtec head. vtec heads arent always the best heads for d series.

the Y5 is vtec, i mean im not lookin to get a ton of HP i just want a little go, this is my DD so i cant have it down for too long, but lucky for me my parents just got finished building a shop so ill have the place to do it, that was my main problem before i never had the place to work on my car if it needed to take more than just an afternoon to complete

the y5 has vtec only on the exhaust side. y8 and z6 engines have vtec on the intake side. and seeing the y8 is rated at roughly a whopping 10 more hp, doing a mini me with a y8 head would be pointless.
