SCCA autocross event: June 24th at GIR

Post by Jacques »

The next autocross event is this coming Sunday (June 24th) at Gateway International Raceway's lot. You can sign up online at stlsolo.org (or http://www.dlbracing.com/default.aspx?), or register at the site starting at 8am (first car off around 10am). The format has a morning and afternoon session, with 3 runs each (6 runs total for the day). Your best time is between morning and afternoon sessions and would decide where you place in your class. Hope to see you guys there!

No one is interested? Spectating is free, BTW. Also, if you get a hold of me, you can ride along with me on one of my runs if you want to get an idea what autocrossing is like.

Look out for me that day and I'll get you in for a couple of runs. As for your fat ass, it'll give me a challenge to adjust to my driving with the extra "ballast".

wish the motor wasn't going. i haven't run her solo II for awhile now. 3weekends a month i was out racing her when i lived back home.

are the classes pretty universal everywhere? if i WERE to enter my car, what would i run in down here?

91cr-x hf
springs/shocks/poly bushings
no more intake --it brokeded
4-1header leading to 2" full exhaust

my only hold up:
my subbox is 100%custom built, and literally has been drilled into the frame of the car. it's basically not removeable unless i re-drill. the amp is the same way, in the storage compartment.
i know these would have to be removed, along w/ the spare wheel and all floor mats, anything loose or capable of moving.

will that ruin tech for me?

Classes are pretty much universal in most regions...they need to be consistent since people compete also at a national level. With your mod list, and in a 2-seater, you're likely in ST2...it's essentially Street Touring S for 2-seaters. As for your subbox, as long as it doesn't move, then it should pass tech. I knew this girl that had a custom box that took up her entire trunk of her Prelude, and it passed tech. Also, as long as you don't have a CF hood or something, you should stay in ST2.

thank god. i'd actually screw myself if i ran w/ my intake. since i "modded my engine" they threw me in a diff class and i'd get my ass handed to me. i quickly realized to remove the intake b4 auto x. lol

As long as you didn't do anything internally to the engine, and just did bolt-ons (intake, pulleys, etc.), then you'd still be in an ST class. If you modified your throttle body and/or intake manifold, as well as change to an aftermarket clutch and/or flywheel, you'd get bumped to an SP class...where I'm in now with the 'Lude. To go into SM (in your case, SM2) class, it would involve doing all the mods in SP class, plus doing lightweight mods (CF hood, gutting most of the interior, etc.), and doing things like forced-induction (turbo, SC) and internal engine mods. If all you modded to your car was the intake, that alone would move you into an ST class. Stock class rules only allow you to have a air filter (stock intake and resonator must remain the same), front strut bar, exhaust, shocks, and wheel/tires for modifications (ICE mods won't affect class designations).

Are you coming to this Sunday's event?
