I am ready to get rid of the coilovers/stock struts on my 89 crx before it goes in the shop so I was just looking for opinions on combinations. I have used tein springs/tokico blue struts on 2 cars and they seem good. here is what Im looking at now..
1st option- tein basic coilovers- $700 shipped
2nd- tein springs and tokico blues again- $400
is there any better setup I can go with or cheaper and equal? I am looking to drop the car about 1.7"-2" tops. I have also used spc camber kits in the front and I hated it b/c it would hit the top of my engine bay and dent it when I hit bumps, so what is the best bang for the buck on this stuff and camber kit?

wouldnt it cost more to get the springs mounted on the struts than to just buy the tein coilovers?

I guess if you "get the springs mounted on the struts" then maybe it will cost more, but why pay someone else to do something that easy? I thought you wanted to get more involved in working on your car? now might be the time to startzrs6v4;28085 wrote:wouldnt it cost more to get the springs mounted on the struts than to just buy the tein coilovers?
Tokico Blues suck. Sorry, Im not a fan, especially for performance/lowering applications; they just aren't stiff enough. I have illuminas and Eiback sportlines on my car, and the illuminas are plenty of strut for me.
My only grievance is that they don't offer the adjustable perches that the Koni yellows do(I would like a slightly lower stance). granted tho, this can also be a grievance with my springs; if I had coil overs, I wouldn't need adjustable perches on my struts. but I love my spring rates, so I don't really want to change them, that is why I have considered buying Koni's

Check out Function Form full coilovers, 24 way adjustable i think you'd find a setting you'd like. there on www.jhpusa.com and only 700$. Just a suggestion.

yea I am going to put them on myself, but I just havent done it yet and I thought I read somewhere in here that shops charge like $200 to mount the springs on the struts. I will look into koni's, I have eibach pro springs and they are nice but only drop you like an inch. anyone know anything about camber kits?

tein is a well known name for a reason. do you think they got as popular as they are by making shitty parts. the basic damper system is what you wont. it's for street cars looking at a little bit of track time. you can't go wrong with such a well known name. and remember you get what you pay for. and if your looking for cheap, sell that crx and buy a ford or something. becuse we drive economy cars that were not intended to do the things we do to them so it's not cheap.it's just what we love.

yea I like tein a lot in fact I have used tein springs two times already and I realize these cars arent cheap to work on in fact no car really is if you do it right. anyway I have had 2 preludes, 3 integras, a civic, a 240, a mr2, an s2000 and now an integra and crx again, so I am pretty familiar with what stuff costs.. I do agree with you tein is top quality and probably the best. I was just between buying springs and struts seperate from the basic coilover setup tein offers. I am going to go with the tein full suspension though. I am also going to go ahead and do a skunk2 front camber kit while everything is apart. I am not being cheap its just I dont make to much money so I was just seing if there was anything equal out there such as omni power, but $50 more for tein is worth it. thanks for the helpJ8k'S CRX;28125 wrote:tein is a well known name for a reason. do you think they got as popular as they are by making shitty parts. the basic damper system is what you wont. it's for street cars looking at a little bit of track time. you can't go wrong with such a well known name. and remember you get what you pay for. and if your looking for cheap, sell that crx and buy a ford or something. becuse we drive economy cars that were not intended to do the things we do to them so it's not cheap.it's just what we love.

Forget about the Teins. S-tech springs suck, performance wise they just don't hold up. I have read numerous stories about them sagging and what not. You can not go wrong with a Koni Ground Control setup. It is track tested tried and true. Both come with a lifetime guarantee also, and there is a reason the companies stand behind their product. If that is out of your price range I would say go with GC and AGXs or illuminas. Both would be equally at home or for weekend warrior track outings. I have read good things about the function and form coilovers, I am just iffy about all these new coil over companies popping up.
