realistically 300-350 to start and while saving, get a set of h-beam rods and forged pistons then maybe 400-500. thats what i have been having trouble finding a str8 answer on. how much power can the b18b1 cylinder handle before needing sleeved?HardCore97;290011 wrote:how much power are you looking to make?

sleeves can handle a lot more than the rods can on a stock engine. most i would push a stock b is 300whp. anything after that can make your engine a ticking time bomb.
sure there are people out there that has put 400whp+ down on stock engines, but how long do those last.
also, a lot of what you can get out of an engine depends on the efficency of the setup and the tune.
but general rule of thumb is 200whp on stock d series, 300whp on stock b.

great i will def keep that in mind. also the stock cranks, what are those lasting up to? do you know where i would be able to get a decent shell? i was also looking in to BC stage 2 turbo cams, but dont know if it will be worth since im limited to 300whp at the moment.rickles8099;290014 wrote:sleeves can handle a lot more than the rods can on a stock engine. most i would push a stock b is 300whp. anything after that can make your engine a ticking time bomb.

stock cranks are capable of more than 600whp easily. so no need to worry about it.B18terror;290017 wrote:great i will def keep that in mind. also the stock cranks, what are those lasting up to? do you know where i would be able to get a decent shell? i was also looking in to BC stage 2 turbo cams, but dont know if it will be worth since im limited to 300whp at the moment.
a decent shell can be located on craigslist.org
turbo cams are useless till after you build an engine. why spend the $500 on cams to get to the 300whp power mark on a couple less pounds of boost if you can do the same thing by turning the boost up a couple of notches.
also, depending on the cam you go with, you may need to go with upgraded valve springs which is more money.

i actually have been looking into that and the cams and valvetrain parts that i will need are 330.00 for the turbo cam and another 360 for the springs and ti retainers. so i more than likely will not go that way just yet.rickles8099;290020 wrote:stock cranks are capable of more than 600whp easily. so no need to worry about it.

Welcome, great intro thread btw. do you plan on tracking this car or using it as a DD?
Edit: dumb question if you don't have a car. I would recommend a CRX or 92-95 Civic hatchback shell. they can be pretty cheap and someone can correct me if im wrong, but i believe they are the lightest
