as the title says, What would be the best route in combating this rust?

It is in the same spot on both sides of the car. It looks a little better after applying some lithium grease but I want a permanent fix.

i would sand use rust converter primer and some dupli color factory color paint im guessing its in a not so visible spot i.e. an exterior body panel so if the color is a little off no one will notice and as long as you tape off good enough and sand down to the metal youll be ok and that should fix it.
