Painting the hood advice/input

Post by GAWear »

So I am going to be painting my new hood in a week or so.

I am leaning towards a flat black.

My question is should I clear coat it or not?

I want the flat black look but want it to hold up also

Are you going with spray paint or real car paint?

Not sure!

At first I was going to do spray paint but my dad is a painter by trade....So he has all the stuff it's just getting him to do it lmao.

All though he isn't working right now so probably real car paint.

Look up Suede colors. They are the flat/primer looking ones that protect like a normal car paint.

Yes please do real paint. Do you know what kind of paint you are going to go with? Most paint companies make a satin clear coat that is very durable.

I sprayed my hood with GM8555 black about 3 or 4 years ago and it has held up nicely even without any sort of clear coat.

No matter what you use its not gonna look flat unless the clear is also a flat, that being said its really hard to make spraypaint look good on a hood. Its such a wide area it always looks streaky.

Plus since your dads a painter it would be stupid to do something like spray paint anything on your car. Do you know how many people would kill to have a real painter in the family? Leave the spraypaint to cheap bastards like me thankyouverymuch.

No idea what paint I am going to use. Would perfer something that doesn't break the bank!

Speed well my dad is a Union painter not an automobile painter. He has done some race cars and a couple of his old 4x4s. He would do a great job either way.
