i used the VHT to try and see how it worked as a product. IMHO if you take you time it looks really awesome. its not "satin" or dull in person and is very smooth and shiny as if they tails were shipped like that. It was not done by a shop so in some peoples eyes its not up to par i guess.speed;229246 wrote:Well if your making a thred about it you obviously cant do it just as well as a professional shop, So let me break it down for ya.
Real shops useually have better paints then "vht night shades". also a real shop uses better materials, and it will come out overall better quality that is also a bit more durable..Now if you had all the equipment that a shop has i would say sure just get the supplys and do it your self but since your using vht i will just assume you dont. And since your making this thred im also assuming that you dont have much experience tinting tail lights so i was just trying to point you in the right direction so you dont get laughed at for ruining your stock tail lights or being the only one at a meet with riced out vht tails..
Just wait till you see a car that was done right using automotive candy paint and a real automotive clear coat and compare it to yours. Its not even expensive if you just bring them your lights and tell em what you want done.
Im not trying to come off as an asshole just tryin to help ya out bro.

Its not that its not up to par man,all i was doing is giving you my 2 cents..its not my car so do whatever looks good to YOU.
Thats why i said:

I was just giving you some advice on what has worked for me in the past. I dont know what "opps" are but i was guessing you ment opinions and in MY opinion vht looks cheesy and overall kinda makes your tail lights cheap looking. But rather then just blast your new mod like that i helpfully offerd an alternative, that i have found to give better results. You wanna run vht? do it. do it all day long because its not my car and i could really care less. Its not that its not up to par its just a crappy product in my "opps". im all about saving a buck and doing stuff myself but only if the end product comes out legit..And sure it might look pretty good now but in a few weeks that shine will be gone, and your tail lights will look like every other car i have seen with vht niteshades. Its your car and your call..have fun with your car and if vht is right on par with you then our "opps" should mean less then nothing to you. sorry for the rant. i just hate when lights are tinted black period unless its on a black car and done right but even then i useually dont REALLY like it..speed;229235 wrote:You should have taken them to a paint shop but since you didnt i would do the next best thing..
Once you get the lights tinted and looking how you want them, you should clear them with DUPLICOLOR and only use duplicolor for this. you might need about 2-3 light coats of clear but im telling you you WILL be happy you did! It looks really great in person and gives it that factory look. I cant find any pics but honestly just take my word for it..It will look 100 times better!
Also: dont do your headlights. And if your gonna do your corner lights go to a craft store and get "orange stained glass spraypaint" its like a candy spraypaint and looks really great and gives your lights that deep clear orange color. You can also get the yellow stained glass paint and do your foglights/headlights if you want that jdm yellow look.
Just make sure to throw a coat of duplicolr clear on it for shinyness and protection. Duplicolor clear is the only clear that i have ever used that comes out good.

for someone that doesnt care all that much about the idea of smoked tails/black out tails, you sure got alot to say about it.
anyways more pics!

also did my amber corners with the VHT.

i only did 2 layers on each set of lights. i did not want them to look completely blacked out. just enough to give them a "smoked" appearance.

A shop doesn't spray them candy black btw. They just spray the lights with a clear coat that they mixed alittle black in them.

There are a few different ways of doing it,i prefer the candy black paint with a clear coat cause it makes it deeper looking.
