Cheap way to fix rust

Post by 92 Accord Wagon »

I was just curious how anyone on here would fix some honda rust on here. I have the typical Honda rust on both my wagon and Vigor. I was thinking maybe some POR 15 and then fiberglass or bondo over it then spray paint it to match it. Any other ideas? The Vigor is a car I will drive til it completely dies.

For myself yes. I have an acura vigor that has rust on the rear 1/4 panel. I will try to get pics of it up later today.

i had a small section of rust that ate through the first layer/panel on the rear quarter...i just dremel'ed out/sanded the rust away, filled hole with fiberglass, bondo'd+sanded smooth and touched up that spot with the paint for my car in a can', it hasnt spread any further and turned out pretty good for something that was less than $30 and a few hour's.....id at least remove as much rust as you can so it stops spreading

If you dont get rid of all the rust before it's filled there will be a bigger problem later . Best way is to weld in a metal patch . Not really a cheap fix .

^^^He is correct. That's about the ONLY way to do it, and do it right.

fiberglass and bondo will work perfectly fine no need for metal. its a vigor not some masterpiece, it will work great for what you need just make sure rust is completely removed and if not it will still hold for as long as you need im sure.

I've got a 94 Accord with the same quarter panel rust. I don't want to throw a bunch of money into it either, just enough to stop the spread of it and make it look a little better. After removing all the rust and sanding the bondo (or whatever I decide to use) should I just use my touch up paint and sand and buff it or what? I don't care if it doesn't look perfect, it's my winter car. Anything will look better than those rust spots... I've also heard that there is a piece that lines the quarter panel near the wheel that collects dirt, road grime, and water, which is why it rusts in the first place. If I remove it, I can prevent any more rust from developing. Anyone else heard that?
