DIY Black Housing Headlights

Post by bemberg2 »

I know this has been done before, but I thought I'd show how i did it on my 97 civic.
1) removed the front bumper (top plastic bolts, two screws underwheelwell, and two 10mm bolts under bumper)
2) removed 4 bolts and two wiring connections to headlights.
Image
3) place (one at a time) into oven at 250 for 5 min to loosen epoxy
4) w/ flathead separate plastic lens from back housing.
5) remove 4 screws on housing to remove chrome lens
Image
6) sand lens (which i forgot to do) and paint
Image
7) reattach 4 screws to housing
8) place two pieces together and into oven again for 5 min @ 250f
9) press together making sure tabs connect
10) reattach on car

Took about an hour all told. and cost 1.00$ Boo-ya!

I've done this on all the hatches... to really throw something different out there, try random colors. Neutral colors work best though.

Bronze... Always my favorite.

They make polishing kits to fix that. They sell them at any auto parts store for around $15. I just used one on my Jetta and it worked great.
