Legality of RHD conversions??

Post by HondaChild »

Does anyone know the legality of converting a car that has a U.S. VIN to a RHD car? This being done by a front clip swap.

I don't think you'll have any problems, as long as your car has a proper title, insurance, and registration. It doesn't really matter what side of the car you drive on. How do you think the mail gets delivered? Especially in rural areas there a quite a few RHD Jeeps, Toyotas and Subarus that are used to deliver mail.

Well the Mail is the government, and the government gets to do what they want. But the thing that I was concerned with was the licensing, for exapmle, the dashboard VIN number once removed can not be reattached, legally that is.

I don't think there's any legality issues with RHD conversions.

Mail men? Mail men who drive Jeeps? Most common I've seen.

But yes there is legality issues with IMPORTING vehicles. I feel its just a government issue with taxes and such. But they use excuses of cars being unsafe, and the ones that you can import, need special attention to pass American laws, not necessarily just because they are RHD.

Correct me if I'm wrong. There is a list put out by the Government, saying which vehicles can be imported for use, Including Skylines, but the list is very limited, I imagine only a few hundred, I don;t have it in front of me, and most Hondas are not on that list.

And I believe as Long as the VIN is the same as on all other parts of the car your good to go. How the hell do you replace a heater core without removing the VIN? Its connected to the Dash, and Dashes are removed everyday.

Just pull the old VIN plate and reattach it to the new dash. You won't have any problems. What do you think happens when people have to replace a dashboard?

The replacement dashboard keeps the VIN on it to verify the part is not stolen and the original vin is left in the glove box. Nobody checks the dash VIN anyways unless your car was reported stolen.
