High heat Clear coats???

Post by adio3x »

So i've been asking around for high heat resistant paints, that come in an assortment of colors, and not too expensive. This is for the valve cover designs. I've gotten a few responses to just use a Super High Heat Clear coat, layers and layers to protect oil based paints from running together. Any of you paint guru's agree?

You can use a high heat clear coat. Just check that the compounds in the clear coat do not react with the oils in a bad way. Other than that I would say your good to go if you paint with oils and clear high heat clear coat.

Have you tried to use a glaze on your valve covers before? I use it on clay, after painting and it gives it a gloss look after it has been toasted at 500 degrees.

You should try using an airbrush, that way you can have an even larger assortment of colors, and you could also use automotive grade clearcoats aswell then.

airbrushing is cool, but i dont think i can have the same control compared to a paint brush.

Ok so some people have been telling me they have painted their brake calipers with testors enamel paint. The same stuff i used and said that it can take the heat. I just dont want to fuck it up and try lol.

So why dont you get another valve cover and throw a layer of the paint over it and see if it will last just paint it all one color before putting ones that have your designs and shit on it.
