we should start a petition to change the law on front plates. Base it on 'government waste'. Seriously, if you are going to get pulled over, the cops are going to be BEHIND you. You can just as easily point a speed camera at the back of a car as you can the front. Think about it...half as many plates to manufacture (less material cost), only have to make 1 renewal sticker per car (only 1 plate, why 2 stickers..again, less material), and less time wasted by law enforcement ticketing no front plate 'criminals'. Let them spend their time chasing someone that's actually endangering someone else.
There's 5 MILLION registered vehicles in Missouri. Let's say that it's only $1 in materials (doubt that) for each plate.... $5M bucks saved right there!
While I'm on the subject of BS equipment violations, how bout selling window tint permits? I'd gladly pay an extra $15-20/year to be allowed to tint my front windows darker than the current legal limit. I know that it's limited to protect Cops, but there are alternatives. Example 1: you get pulled over and your windows are so dark the officer can't see you. Officer instructs you to roll down your windows. If you do, then BAM he can see you. If you don't, then he/she should have the authority to bust out the back window so they can see you. This is where the incar camera is necessary to curb misuse of this by Law Enforcement. Example 2: Sell permits to law abiding citizens and display a placard on their plates. Clean record citizens are allowed to purchase a permit to be affixed to the REAR (only one on the car) plate. When/if stopped by johnny law, they will have already been instructed to lower all tinted windows in the vehicle. Make it like a driving test. You take a written exam proving that you know the rules, submit to a background check (that you pay for as part of the application for the permit), and either pass or fail. Example 3: ECOLOGICAL savings from window tint? How much harder does a car have to work to run the AC? A LOT! So if you were to limit the light intrusion to the cabin of a vehicle by 80%, how much easier is it for the AC to do it's job in the summer? If it reduced the cycling of the AC system by 5% it would make a big difference statewide! Example 4: Theft. If a thief can't see anything to steal in your car, they'll likely move on. Plus, if they can't see that the car is not occupied (possibly with an ARMED owner) that could deter car theft. This would help the insurance industry by reducing the claims paid out for stolen property. Again, free up law enforcement from having to take/fill out reports ont the theft to begin with.
Again, free up Law enforcement, courts (fighting BS tickets), and generate income from the sale of permits (and the app fees).
OK, I'm done. I promise I'll take my meds tomorrow.

first half, sure I agree... second half totally negates the point of the first half... how much will if cost to print that sticker for the plates, how much will it cost to run background checks and train/test applicants? Its a lot of work for something like window tintaudioguru76;176471 wrote:we should start a petition to change the law on front plates. Base it on 'government waste'. I agree. First half about plates is a genius idea. I dont have my front plate on, and I wont put it on. Im willing to pay a $60 ticket for no front plate. Plus I would have to drill holes in my bumper and I am NOT doing that. But the tint really doesnt bother me. I had legal tint on my integra and I thought it was fine. There isnt a huge difference between 35% and 5% anyways.Spork;176472 wrote:first half, sure I agree... second half totally negates the point of the first half... how much will if cost to print that sticker for the plates, how much will it cost to run background checks and train/test applicants? there is a big difference between 5 and 35%... my fronts are 35 and i think its fine, my back window is 5% and i have to roll it down at night to see anything behind me.

yeah i dont really have strong opinions on tint laws because i dont have any tint at the moment and i feel like any tint at all would be fine, and totally blacked out windows is a much bigger safty hazard than no front license plate
