just fyi, it's "vtec" v-tech makes phones and childrens toys.
I would expect mid/low 30's/gallon depending on the condition of the motor... the two guys who are logging 40+ (mike and phate) are doing it in CRX's with motors that were designed to be gas misers.

the insight is basically an extension of the CRX design project (the "teardrop" shape), just updated with more aerodynamic efficiency and less weight(capable of the same 'performance' as a crx, but does it with 30% less horsepower). I would bet that honda could have done it just as well (and probably lighter) if they designed the car with just an economical gasoline motor, but at the time, there was money to be made by producing a hybrid and trying to capture an emerging hybrid market, so I would argue that the car was produced this way more as a marketing ploy and a way to begin experimenting with production hybrids than as a necessity for gas mileage.
This post comes with a guarantee: I guarantee that I don't care what you think about it.

OP:
I've actually thought about buying a deisal and converting it to run on the grease crap. Read that the gas prices are suppose to spike again another 20-30 cents by summer.
Your suppose to use veggie oil.Just any typical shit you can buy from the grocery store. Its pretty easy to convert im pretty sure I have the stuff to do it to the 93 f350 turbo diesel in the driveway but we never did it.

Back from the dead. After having mine for months, the WORST I have gotten is 51 mpg. That was with me, passenger, dog, car full of stuff for a trip, AC on and driving about 80-85 the whole way, not caring about MPG. On the way back, I drove a little nicer and got 61 mpg. Since then, I have put the correct tires on the car and it's quite a bit better. Now, driving to and from work (about 6 miles each way with 2 pretty large hills) I get 64-66 mpg. On flat land, I am getting a little over 70 mpg. That is bone stock car. I just added a max regen switch and I'm going to add an assist/regen disable switch later this week. Max regen switch allows you to push a button and go to maximum charging on the hybrid batteries. It's useful when going down long hills or when you know you'll need to stop; you can use it for light braking. The assist/regen disable switch allows you to turn off the electric assist completely so you can preserve your hybrid battery on a hill. Pretty sure I can maintain speed on the large hill going into town without assist but the computer thinks I have to have it. By turning it off, I'll be able to keep those 4 bars that I would have lost on the hill to lessen background charging. This switch also turns off background charging so you can get better MPG on flat ground.

Now, that said, true hypermilers are getting 80-100 mpg out of these cars. I'm far from it at this point. I was going to buy a system called the MIMA but after the smoke and mirrors cleared, I figured out that it's only about another 10% gain for $750. I won't get this system until I go with more hybrid batteries so I can use more electric motor. At that point, the MIMA is a good thing.
