my dad is finally letting me get my hands on his old bike, its been in hundreds of pieces for many years. my plan right now is to get back together and running, then take it all back apart and try and do a "budget restoration". i have been wanting to do this for a very long time and im excited as hell! even better is that my dad is paying for the parts. :)

its a BMW R69US, it has full dress and cold weather riding setup, from what i understand its a pretty rare bike. its got a 600cc opposed twin making a whopping 42bhp. i dont have the frame yet, but i brought home some boxes of parts. lol, should be getting the frame home tomorrow.

That is gonna be a sweet bike! Are you gonna stay all original on the rebuild?

as much as i can, there are a few option parts the bmw offered that im looking at, like different low mounted mirrors, stuff like that.

a little back story on the bike, my dad has had it as long as i can remember, since before i was born. sometime in the late 80's he took to the bmw dealer to have it repaired, cause it sheared a flywheel key. at some point he returned to the dealer to check on the bike or for whatever reason and they had completely torn the bike down to the frame all that was left on the frame was the back wheel. needless to say he was pissed, told them to put it back the way it was and they refused. i still remember loading the boxes of bike parts in my dads old van, boxes the bike has stayed in for the better part of 22 years.

apparently BMW only made about 1000 of the r69us models between 1967-69, i think that puts this thing in the "rare" category, which makes me want to get it going even more!

Wow! That's some piece of history, can't wait for the progression.

thanks for the comments, i went through a lot of the parts last night and needless to say there a lot of small parts missing. thankfully there are places i can get the parts from, but everything on this thing is expensive! it looks like all the big stuff is there and in decent shape, but its all corroded and dirty i dug out 5-6 mud dobber nests out of the head and engine block last night, lol. so the first thing im going to get is a soda blaster from harbor freight, to get all the pieces cleaned up. hopefully i will have the frame home this evening.

just ordered the first round of parts, to get the crank in the block, im not ready for any type of assembly right now still have to clean everything, but at least the parts should be there when im ready for them. then im getting parts for the cam install, when the budget allows, im gonna try and get the entire block assembled or at least have all the parts then move on to ordering parts for the cylinders and heads. pretty much buying $200 worth of parts at a time, so this is gonna take awhile. lol
