Multiple sized subs?

Post by delslo »

I've ran 12s and 15s in the del sols over the years.
Tonight I put 2 10s in the trunk just to test them.

I've noticed they all sound differently but the larger subs push the sounds deeper and farther. Really that's all common knowledge.

My question is, does anyone have a multiple sub setup? A 10 and a 12, or a 10, 12 and 15?
Is there any benefit to this setup?

I realize the box(es) have an effect on sound as well.

From what I've come to understand, you pick up your mids and highs with a good set of components, letting the sub take care of the lows.

I've never really seen anyone run a setup like you describe, I've stuck with 10's. Never had anything else. The right box makes a huge difference in sound too.

I use to run different sub sizes along with a few friends just toying around when we had multiple audio setups and it worked out great and sounded amazing. I use to run some infinity 10's\12's with all infinity speakers. Worth a shot if your actually interested in doing it I dont think youll be disappointed.

Like he^ already mentioned though a single 12 with good component speakers\4 channel amp would make for a cleaner setup. When running subs I tend to go with 12s being there a good meeting point for quality sound and bass. unless your using a more intense subwoofer\amp combo like a jl w7 or kicker l7 then you may go with a 10 depending on taste.

Multiple sized subs?

Post by Rich »

Right now Im running a single Digital Design 8 inch sub which honestly sounds better than my single 10" kicker sub. And better than the dual 12 setups Ive used in the past.

Theres a lot more to it just the size of the sub. Box size port design magnet size power level etc etc etc

Ive toyed with running different sizes before. I think Id want a good eq to control the frequencies differently for each sub.

I've always preferred the 12's, but wondered what it'd be like with others. Like a 10 and a 15 to cover more range.

N2HIFI, can I gather that pursuing better range with different sized subs is a waste of time?

The bass on 8s, 10s, 12s and 15s are all on different frequencies and octaves, so yes they will sound different, and odd if paired.

it all depends on preference and what type of music u like to listen to. I have a single 12 and works very well, not very . I've heard 2 10s that sound great that will also thump ur head. Again depends all on U. Check out memphis amps along with Bravox speakers.

I've been running MA Audio class D's for a few years. All in del sols.
The amp stays the same, but I've ran a 15, 2 12s, and currently trying out 2 10s. Which I am enjoying.
swapping subs is what prompted me to ask about running different sizes.
