Hopefully i can explain this good enough so here goes.
I had a amp and sub, but recently just got rid of them. And my mids and highs were really crappy. So i went out and bought me 4 6 1/2 Alpine type s hooked them up and didnt sound much better.
I have the same componet speakers (alpine type s) in my other car and they sound great.
I tried playing around with the radio to turn the bass up a bit and nothing.
I was wondering could there be a wire that went to the amp, for the bass, that should be going to the head unit?
Thanks.

First of all, I would not rely on your 6.5" components for bass.....don't turn the bass up on them(keep them flat, or lower), that isn't really what they were designed for.....second, what kind of head unit do you have?

^What he said^
You won't get much (edit: any) bass out of 4 6.5" speakers. Whats your other car?

Ohhhh ok, well i played around with the Alpine radio, not sure which model, and found a MX button? As soon as i pushed that, the speakers went from being really flat sounding to what they should sound like. I think i was expecting too much, but atleast now they sound alot better.
I hate messing with car audio! lol

If you think you are still lacking on midbass/bass, you may have wired the speakers out of phase if you installed them yourself. The easiest way to check this would be to fade all the way to the front or rear speakers. Take and adjust the balance all the way to the left or the right speaker. Listen to the amount of bass coming from the single speaker compared to both speakers. If you have more bass when balanced all the way to one side then you have them wired out of phase. I would do this on both your front and rear speakers.
