Currently the car has kick panels and door speakers and no sub, this is the area this upgrade will be focused on along with some amp changes. I am using Bravox Component's in the kicks and Bravox coaxial's in the doors but i might upgrade these in the future with some Compression horns from Image Dynamics. But for now i am going to add a single 15" image dynamics IDQ subwoofer and thats what this upgrade covers. The building of a single 15" fiberglass spare tire well enclosure.
So i started on this today at work since it was my "day off"
1. clean and prep the area so i can lay tape down, this is to keep the fiberglass from getting on to the bare surface and becoming a permanent part of the car. fiberglass resin mixed with hardner can be very very sticky so make sure to keep everything covered that you don't want to be 'glassed.
-before i cleaned it

2. tape tape and lots more tape.. why see number 1

3. Ok i kinda skipped a little bit, but what we have here is the "frame" of the enclosure.. this is the physical wooden sides of the box used to give the fiberglass shape once i start laying it. The white stuff is the fiberglass chop mat, this is what you lay the resin on and what makes the other sides of the box once it hardens

4. Ok here we have 1 full layer of fiberglass mat layed down and covered with resin, typically it has a cure time of about 10-20min depending on how much hardner you mixed into the resin.

5. This is 3 layers of fiberglass mat resined and cured, this is pretty much now as stiff if not stiffer then mdf and 1/3 of the weight.

6. Making the top plate, using 3/4 mdf i cut out a piece to the shape and size i needed to cover the top of the box. I decided to go very simple and just do a flat box with trim panels and a flush grill. Molded amp racks and boxes are kewl and look flashy but thats just not me nore the style of the car so we are going painted wood and suede trim panels for now.

7. Alright got the top all cut out and fitted (cut to fit the back of the car if you look closely) and went ahead and cut out the woofer hole to get a idea of placement. The top has been sealed with silicon and nailed together already and not shown in this pick screw's

So now at this point i need to sand and spray the top with high fill primmer and then lightly sand it for color. Going to paint the top of the box the close to the color of the car (can't match faded paint) and then make trim panels. But for now i am at a stopping point till the next slow day or my next day off next week.
I will update this as i work on the car and will post up pics of the product later
