I just picked up my 00 S2000 3 weeks ago and have run into either cars not worthy of racing me, or all stuff that would kill me. So tonight on 141 there was an sti that appeared and sounded stock, that is until he took off in 1st while in front of me. The car took off super hard, and figuring I'd get killed I chased him looking for a race anyway.
So the first run we were cruising at about 45-50 and without honking he takes off immediately putting me at his rear bumper. I was already in 2nd though so I just hit it being right at 5500 rpms. To my surprise I instantly stopped his pull. We ran up to about 85-90 and it ended with me right on his bumper.
Second run was from a stop. I said to the guy laughing how I'd have no shot at this and asked if he was stock. He said nearly full stage two. Now as far as I know that means full turbo back exhaust and maybe some kind of engine management. Well he had a stock muffler so I'm thinking that was what was NEARLY about his full stage two. Anyway, light turns green I go ahead and take off like a bat out of hell getting a good jump. He quickly cruises past me in 1st and as I shift into 2nd he has close to three cars on me. But again once I was in VTEC he didn't pull on me at all and we ran up to 100. I think he missed 3rd so I made up a little bit of ground, but not much.
I think the S2000 is quick but totally expected to get walked by this guy. Do the results sound about right for a stock S2000 vs this particular car?

Silver, not sure about the year. My Subaru knowledge is limited. I'm thinking pre 04...is that when they changed in looks a bit?

Yeah, something is definitely off about that.m6speed;266943 wrote:his car must not have been going all out, unless something was wrong with it.
OP, perhaps it's not as "stage 2" as you were led to believe (which you alluded to already)?
Did it sound like he was short shifting at all?

I know s2k's aren't the fastest but I don't really see a sti that doesn't even have a full exhaust beating a s2k by much especially from a roll

I guess the real question is do these cars typically pull as hard (or near as hard) in 2nd, 3rd, and 4th as they do in 1st? Because if this thing pulled in 2nd-4th like it did in 1st he would have put quite a few more cars on me.
I could tell when the car would reach full boost and it certainly didn't seem like he was babying it, but I don't know what each gear is good for mph wise. I know when we shut down right around 100 he was in 4th and had recently shifted into that gear.
I've got that 9k rpm red line and was using almost every bit of it (probably shifting at about 8800-8900) and was not shifting too long after him. I know he was hitting and holding peak boost for some time and as long as I was at 5500 and up he could not pull on me at all.
And my s2k is totally stock.

That's my thought. From a roll we were dead even, dig was a completely different story.sharpie;266956 wrote:I know s2k's aren't the fastest but I don't really see a sti that doesn't even have a full exhaust beating a s2k by much especially from a roll
