I have decided to run 14inch steel wheels on my car and I now need to purchase tires.
From the factory I am supposed to run 175/65/14 this tire has an overall diameter of 23.0, we will use this for my comparison,
A lot of honda owners run a 185/65/14 which is 10 mm wider than the 175 and has a overall diameter of 23.5, which is still in range of the original equipment overall diameter. By in range I mean you will not notice a drastic change in speedo accuracy and shiftpoints, and abs engagement.
Now to my question, I want to run a 195/60/14 which is 20mm wider than stock and has an overall diameter of 23.2, which is closer to the stock overall diameter. It will not rub because I run 205/40/17's now with no rub, and ride height can be adjusted if my car sits lower. What would be the disadvantage of going this wide, I know I can expect the centers to wear out faster. I also think cornering and handling will be affected. What do you guys think.
I should also let you know that I have test fitted a 195/60/14 on the wheel and it doesnt bow over the side to much. What would you guys do a staggered fitment, the 185s, or the 195s?
I am trying to gain the most traction out of the front. I currently run solid mounts, lsd, polyu bushings, and a lowered suspension to battle wheel hop, so I figure the wider tire I run the better.
Lastly before you guys tell me to keep my 17's because they are the widest tire, I want to get rid of them and make the car looks more stock.

I'd say go with the 195's. That would be your best choice in the long run.

first of all, what width are the wheels? also, do you have something to adjust the caster and camber on your car?

to get the most traction buy some nice tires the right size the falken rt615s i think run a lot wider than their advertised size so if you got a 195/60/14 you should be good. i dont think you will have rubbing issues since its still almost the stock diameter...

width is good, the tires fit and I have a full camber kit back and front, nothing on caster, but caster shouldnt be affected by switching wheels, right?budget_crx;16071 wrote:first of all, what width are the wheels? also, do you have something to adjust the caster and camber on your car?

lol no i mean inch wise, obviously a wider wheel will accept a wider tire better. 5.5" wheels with 195 tires will have more contact on the road than a 5" wheels with 195s.Sleepy Civic DX;16078 wrote:width is good, the tires fit and I have a full camber kit back and front, nothing on caster, but caster shouldnt be affected by switching wheels, right?
I was just asking about the suspension to make sure you will be able to get the right camber, otherwise putting on a wider tire wont improve your handling or braking at all
