Dont know if we have any ford guys in here but im posting this on all the forums i belong to. i own a 96 ranger 2.3 four banger. It keeps detonating, well technically its not detonating but its pinging. The ecu detects detonation and severely retards timing to avoid detonation hence the pinging. I changed the timing belt, water pump, and flushed the cooling system. Very little pinging now but it still does it under WOT at low rpms. Any suggestions why, its not showing any codes. I'm thinking it might be the throwout bearing or something from the clutch assembly clicking as it is getting old and need be replaced. Any comments, suggestions, etc. would be appreciated. Thanks for the help!

Well when i had my S10 it pinged if I didnt put 89 or higher octane gas. I dont know much about the detonation but it could be that simple. What grade fo gas are you using?

Youd be surprised what mid grade gas can do.

Seafoam the upper end of your engine. If you aren't sure how to do it, PM me and I'll explain. You probably have excessive carbon buildup on your pistons and other internal parts, effectively raising the compression ratio.
