My 97 Talon Build.

Post by Kolk1 »

I always just click "New Posts" So I didnt even know about this section.

So here we go, im going to post a build thread/this is my current project.

Not horribly long ago I decided I wanted to get back into a project car. I didnt want to do a full blown drag car, full blown highway car, or a full blown ANYTHING. Ive always felt looking back over the plethora of cars ive owned, I had more fun with moderately quick imports, over anything else. I still have the gut feeling and need to put more money into power than anything else.

I was looking for either a clean DSM, MK3 Supra, or somehow a cheap TT 300ZX. Obviously, what I ended up finding in my price range was a 97 AWD Turbo Talon. Had a good amount of basic mods, but as always, it still needs more.

Lately ive been doing more Maintenance items than anything else. Just did new belts, clutch master cylinder, almost done with a Master bushing kit from Energy Suspension, just did a couple more gaskets today. One of the previous owners sprayed alot of the gray plastic with black paint, so Monday I spent a good amount of time scrubbing that off, now im down to just the trim around the back glass that still has black paint flaking off.

Next week Mods:
All new pads and rotors
Clutch Slave Cylinder

Soon to come Mods:
1600 Injectors
New ECU with DSM link
Retune for E85
And shoot for 400-425awhp

Winter Mods:
New Block, with a basic build, nothing crazy.
New Turbo, slightly bigger and Ball Bearing this time.
New Clutch, and probably alot more Maintenance.
Either a new fuel pump, or some type of boost for the 255.
Retune, with a final power goal around 500awhp. Im basing this off of Steevo honestly. I was only shooting for 120+ trap speed. And hes around 127-128 range after seeing what he did to Furbasher, and hes around 124. So I feel confident that anything over 450, ill be around the trap speed I want as a final goal.

Spring Mods:
Rims. lol

Current Mods:
PTE 5031 Turbo
46mm External wastegate
Full 3" exhaust from turbo back, no O2 housing
FP Exhaust Manifold

SSAC Front Mount Intercooler
1G BOV
FP 4" Intake
1G throttle Body
FIC 850 Injectors
Fuel Lab AFPR
255 walbro fuel pump

EGR and Charcoal Delete

Exedy Stage 1 clutch
SS clutch line
New front axles

Arp Head Studs
Cometic Headgasket

No front balance shaft
Jay Racing Alternator Relocation (back of Motor)
Fans moved to the front of the radiator.
Battery relocated to the trunk.
A/C removed

Tinted 5% rear, 25% front
Blacked Headlights

Ground Control Coilovers
Tokico Illumina 5 way adjustable Struts/shocks

AEM UEGO Wideband
AEM Tru-Boost
Cyberdyne Oil Pressure

98 EVO Ecu Tuned via Open Source

Kenwood radio
Alpine speakers
Alpine Type S 10inch sub
Rockford 300.1 amp.

I trimmed the front bumper to allow for air to get to the top half of the intercooler. What i plan to do is, with the 5inch tall piece I cut out, trim off 4 inches of it, and fiberglass the curved section back onto the bumper, and have it resprayed. That way it has a finished curved stock look to it, but just a bigger opening. At that point im also going to shave the huge eagle logo too.

I think thats about it for now. Heres a couple current pics. Nothing that great to look at, just Iphone pics.

It wont take very much time to do the actual fiberglass, and shaving the logo. Just didnt really want to do it in 100+ degree heat. Might start on it next week. I can easly knock out shaving and reshaping the cut off piece, and have that ready to be fiberglassed on for a different day, before I get around to removing the front bumper.
