Why i love my job

Post by N2HIFI »

cause this is what i get to to all day long for a job ... they actually pay me to do this shit.

BackGround: ok i am car audio installer by trade i have been doing car audio for over 13 years on and off as a paying gig. Last year i quit my job at Show off after three long tiring years of employment and started to work for Custom Sounds.

I am currently a Bay manager at custom and pretty far up on the food chain when compared to how long i have been with the company. Working for a pretty good size company that push's custom work and promotes creativity with its installers .. (well the ones that have a clue lol). But being in the position i am i get to work on some pretty nice and baller cars and get to do some pretty fun custom work.

I recently decided to start taking more pictures of custom work i have been doing recently and decided i wanted to post up some of pics of my "work"

these are the two most recent cars i worked on in the last month:

First a 2008 Cadillac Escalade- Customer wanted to keep the factory nav, but wanted a very high end sound and quality of equipment. Did not want to lose the third row seat and all the stuff needed to be stealthy

So here is the run down - Install #1
Focal 165v polyglass componets (6 1/2 front doors)
Focal 130v polyglass componets (5 1/4 rear doors)
JL 500.1 (sub amp)
JL 300/4 (4 channel)
JL 13w5 (baller flat 13" subwoofer)
Audio Control LC6 (6 channel line out converter allows for oem integration)
Kinetic x600 (xtra battery)

Picks of the inside:

Now for the Outside:

well the truck turned out great and the customer was happy with it .... for 2 weeks and then came back for a upgrade .. wanted more bass which ment adding a 2nd sub, a 2nd amp and a larger battery. Here is that upgrade ... PROBLEM i used all available usable storage areas for the first install .. so solution .. remove the drivers rear side panel/ the jack and cup holders and make a amp rack to hold the new amp.

amp mounted

panel reinstalled

modified cup holder (i cut the bottom off made a abs block off plate and covered it in matching vinyl)

the new box

new battery and mounting location (no picture of it mounted though)
Image
and we also installed a hardwire kit for the radar detector ( a little custom mount location)

ok thats it for this truck but i have many more to come

ok this is a install i am finishing up at work i started it last week .. the owner took the car back for the weekend so he could take it to a car show and is supposed o bring it back so i can finish test fitting the custom dash piece i made so i can finish it and get it painted.

This is a 69 camaro that has been rebuilt pretty much 90% so the guy wanted some minor non intrusive custom work done, so we came up with kick panels, 6x9 a 4 channel amp and a custom dash piece to fit a newer radio in it that looks a little more modern then the oem wood piece with a 8 track radio

equipment list:
Focal 165a1 (6 1/2 componets)
Boston s953 (6x9's)
Alpine mrp-f250 (50x4)
Alpine CDA-9886 (cd player)

well this is what i started with in the kick panel area (so i basically had to make a whole panel )
Image
new panel made with the start of the kick
Image
Image
both panels made and both kicks framed up waiting on fabric and 'glass
Image
both kicks wrapped in fleece
Image
resin applied and dried and the tweeters reinforced with duraglass
Image
the kicks finished with black carpet , mounted and the speakers installed
Image
Image
Image
ok now to the trunk this is what i started with
Image
.. very simple 6x9 install (well after i cut the rear deck out and modified the rear deck to allow the speakers to play through)
Image
ok a simple quick and easy board wrapped in carpet for the amp to mount to .. wired up and ready to go
Image
battery installed and mounted in trunk (customer did the battery install .. but i put in the optima and new mount
Image
Ok and now the new dash piece .. ( i dont have a starting picture but this is what it looked like just in really bad shape .. the right one)
Image
here it is with the first piece added to give it it's new shape
Image
added a piece of abs to fill in the top hole that the owner wanted filled , and the added some duraglass for stregnth
Image
Image

well this piece is almost done i just dont have any pics from the work i did on it friday and today ..but i will tommorrow

And now pics of the car it's self
Image
Image
Image
Image
Image

i will update this when i get more pics uploaded
