Just start building the D-series, lighten the car up and upgrade a few things like "flywheel, clutch, cv shafts, and new bushings" also do a few bolt on's your self like underdrive pulley and what not. Possibly boost it once you get into the bottom end like rickles, build the head get ya a nice valve job and port and polish and a decent cam "Depending if you boost or stay N/A" most of all once done stay away from a dig on a normal road against something like that cause your gonna spin regaurdless being FWD/lightened/boosted.

turbo a d series
or
swap and turbo a b series

how will a underdrive pulley throw the bottom end out of balance? a good underdrive pulley wont produce crank walk.

It will throw it out of balance when the vibrations from the engine assembly don't get dampened, forcing the oil pump to shatter.90CivicEx;5015 wrote:how will a underdrive pulley throw the bottom end out of balance? a good underdrive pulley wont produce crank walk.
And there have been pulleys not balanced from honda (civic type-r n1 pulley)
the dampening is probably just as important though.

you just described a cheap underdrive pulley then, if you buy a good one and research it you will see it won't harm your motor none.

I described a stock OEM honda pulley, which isn't dampened.90CivicEx;5129 wrote:you just described a cheap underdrive pulley then, if you buy a good one and research it you will see it won't harm your motor none.
I should put research into it though.......

the gains are so minimal anyway, why take a chance? Get an ATI or a fluidampner.

The pully you just posted is for a B-series, a D-series is smooth inside with a cut for the key. I understand what your saying but like I said if ya go with at least a cheap good one your fine, I did plenty of research on mine and found out which ones are good to go with and just cause there expensive don't mean there the best cause you can find alot cheaper ones that have been delt with right. Also yes the gains are less seen at the stock horsepower but after about 130hp on a honda motor you can see a pretty decent difference.
Just saying I went through all the thoughts and everything and did it and havent had one problem in almost a year of having mine on. Some say the smaller belt will wear the alternator out faster and thats false, some say it provides crank walk at higher rpm's and honestly haven't seen none, and like your saying some say it throws it out of balance and what not and I havent seen any signs of any of these things. But it's a great upgrade if your wanting to provide up to 15% of your motors unused horsepower in mid to higher rpm's.
Just my .02 and far from trying to have arguement if you guys think I am I'm sorry, just putting the site to good use by having a convo back and fourth over a product.
