so ive wanted to be boosted again for an ungodly long time but never really felt like boosting an R motor, it was made for na so i was gonna keep it like that, im bored with the power its making and want more. with that said im picking up a b16 block from dale and want to do a mild build for boost'. I would just build the R block but i cant afford that much downtime especially sense this is going to be a long-on-going project sense im broke at the moment'.
I was originally planning on doing a gsr block for the tq advantages but this block is local, and basically free through a trade' and im not sure that little amount of tq would be noticible when its making 300+hp anyways. I also got to thinking and the gsr build i wanted to do was going to cost waaaaaay to much money and that sort of power would be very un-necessary on the street'. With that said i figured the b16 with a mild build, nice turbo set-up, good tuning and the 4.7 final drive R tranny would be a blast to drive on the street'. Im sure the tranny will cause more traction issues then necessary but it will definately be fun to drive' with the ridiculous excelleration 1st-3rd. The power goal is simply 300whp "daily", and ill have the high boost output tuned to around 400-450whp...what ever super-dave can pull out of it basically........psi would be a depending variable
im going to have a local shop do the machine work for the bottom end, not sure what im going to be doing with the entire assembly yet. Not sure if i wanna take a crack at it myself or find a local with a decent rep to do the assembly of it'. Ill be usuing all R components for the rest of the motor set-up...head/tranny/intake manifold etc'
I was wondering what type of pistons/rods etc you would reccomend, ill also be doing arp headstuds, oem head-gasket, new oil pump, water pump, timing belt'. Being a mild build i figured eagle rods would work just fine, i dont plan on rev'ing past 8.4k'. Not sure which brand pistons to choose'.
Also what type of clutch would you reccomend for these power goals'
As for the turbo set-up, the jist of what i was looking to put together would be
lovfab ac mini me w/downpipe etc
t3/ 60-1
hondata s200 "already have..just gonna upgrade the boost option"
tial 38 wastegate
tial bov
injectors- not sure what size will be needed
greddy prefect b II boost controller
golden eagle vacum box
hmt oil return kit
piping- homemade
misc shit i already owned/and or is already installed on my current set-up-
holley 255
hondata s200+p28/chipped
msd complete system
aem fpr
...probably more i cant think of
Any info on the subject would be great, its going to be a slow build due to funds but after we get our taxes back it should jump along quite nicely'. Anything in the list of parts is subject to change after more research and/or if a deal comes along'.

drop the msd, its a waste of time and money, your stock ignition is good till about 500hp, theres no need for it, as for building a b16 for boost invest in bore and sleeving

as stated, im not gonna sleeve it, stock sleeves can support my goals with a proper tune, and ive already got the msd installed and in use, was off an old boosted set-up, rather put it to use then have it collect dust in storage, i know the oem ignition is fine...but so is msd and ive had 0 problems with it and might as well put it to use'deetz;3878 wrote:drop the msd, its a waste of time and money, your stock ignition is good till about 500hp, theres no need for it, as for building a b16 for boost invest in bore and sleeving

i understand what your saying, but for my goals it seems to be a waste of money, there are alot of different ways to avoid boost creep or precautions that could be taken to avoid such a problemdeetz;3900 wrote:true sorry it was a lot of reading, lol yea well id still consider sleeving it, its just worth the extra money and time, id hate to hear ya cracked the block of of a boost creep or somthing ya know?

I'm not the biggest fan of turbo hondas, but shooting for those kinds of power goals NA would be a waste of time and money. For my money, I figure the best option for boost would be a supercharger. The only experience I have with boosted hondas was goofing around in my friend's turbo Integra, but that was a built LS block. Is there a particular reason you're shooting for those numbers? It seems like overkill for a daily driver type car.
