so with the mods, ever put it on the dyno or take it to the track?02Type-S;205096 wrote:It was a 03ish GT, 5spd, with exhaust, drop, wheels, ect. Idk if anything else was done under the hood. The C5 was a stock automatic.
I drive a 2002 TL Type-S, just cai and exhaust, its a 3.2 vtec V6 that makes 260hp stock, and 232 ft lbs. Not a racecar, but its respectable for what it is.
It responds to mods VERY well tho. lol

Yes, I agree. LM is the "fart can" for domestic drivers. I'm talking about a full exhaust. IE: LT's, ORY with merging Y, 3" or 3.5" (or 4" if you are making some power) single mandrel bent to the back through a decent muffler then all the way to the back bumper. I just can't stand the drone of the true duals, can't stand the sound of an LM period, and Flowmasters getting pretty old. I'm talking about a Hooker AeroChamber, Magnaflow, SLP performance stainless, Mufflex, etc. Like you said, just a matter of opinion. I don't like obnoxious cars. Domestic or Import, wet fart sounding exhaust just does not do anything for me. Used to take my white car and my wife's vert to the Sonic on Elm and 370 about 4 or 5 years ago. There were some pretty crazy cars that would show up there. Not sure if it's still the place to go for side by side cruising or not because I no longer live there.
BTW, you have nothing to worry about with me. I only have lowly LT1 cars. :toothless:
When I go to my house "up north" this is pretty much the norm on the 9 mile straight away when I get close to being there. I don't do it on jackstands. LOL. Sorry the pic sucks. Hard to take a pic and drive at the same time when you are doing like 70 or thereabouts. BTW, that is all it had when I had 2.73's in the car. Do the math on it, 4800 RPM's in overdrive, converter going in and out of lockup, 275/40/17 tires. Peg is 162 and that's about 500-600 RPM's ago.

very much agreed on annoying cars no matter the brand. similar to how i always say, a ricer is in the driver, not the car.
ive topped mine out a few times, nothing regular, i jsut make sure its not before i change my oil. that causes problems. someone took of the limiter on an ls1 fbod alogn time ago and stock it hit 173 i believe so its got a little mroe in it than the ol' opti powered lt1. but the ls1 is a monster top end too. however, the lt1 isnt anything to shrug about, the LSx motors are just a better platform. 15 degree valves, great flowing heads (compared to old SBC shit), easily tuneable, and a MASSIVE aftermarket. the motors are getting slutted out to everything. but still, lt1s can be made quick, just as easy. [hopefully] sometime next year my friend will finish his 383 lt1 build. AFR's, big custom grind cam, and i convinced him to switch over to E85. should be a pretty nasty combo when finish, but thats the key word, WHEN.

A good combination of parts is all you need. My friend recently sold his LT1 car. It was about as simple as they get. Bone stock long block (no port work, heads never off), LT4 Hot Cam kit, Hooker LT's and ORY, 3" single exhaust, FLP 4L60E with 3200 stall, 3.42 gears, and a 100 shot. Car ran 11.20's-11.30's for 3 years straight. Another friend had a basic 388 with some heads and a 4L60 and he ran a best of 10.60's and ran an 11.01 in the Extreme Street class at the LTX shootout 2 years ago. This is in a car that he drove to work every day and got nearly 20 mpg with a non-lockup stall. They can all run good, LT1, LS1, Mustangs, Hondas, anything. You just have to have the money and the know how.
This winter I plan on putting an LS1 style PCM in my LT1 car to get rid of my Bailey LTCC coil per cylinder setup I currently have. That way, the opti can be skipped across the lake since it can completely come off (cam sensor goes in its place). Right now, the opticrap is still used for the high and low res pulses to the PCM. Once I go LS1 PCM, I go to CPS and cam position sensor. I'm still up in the air whether or not to turbo the white car. I keep telling myself that I need to just keep it stock for 30 mpg but this damn GT4088 sitting in the garage is trying to convince me otherwise...
Good luck on the mods. If you ever need parts, one of my friends has a performance shop with some of the best prices in the US. We do more LS1's down here than I care to remember... LT1's are just about extinct.
Oh yeah. If you still have stock shocks and springs on your car, you would not want to drive the speed I did. I know when my suspension was stock, it was downright scary anything over 150. As for the LS1 having more top end, stock to stock yes. I never said I was stock. You need suspension in conjunction with a powerful engine to be comfortable at 150+. I am running 13" front brakes (bigger than an LS1) and the car had all Sam Strano suspension when I used to screw around top end. His wrist sized sway bar, custom valved Bilsteins, and single rate springs. Progressive springs are stupid if you want control since a shock can only properly dampen one rate...

whats the name of this shop? might check into it...amen to the lt1 going extinct. shops with lt1 builds are few and far between. we called ALL over asking for help on jsut the cam grind for this lt1. AI was a big help but didnt end up going with their heads. with LSx motors becoming readily available, it makes it just that much harder for the lt1 market. i mean, from all the truck motor builds that can be had for chhhhheapp, there really is no reason for an lt1 swap for anyone doing a conversion. the motors are slutted outin everything from civics to supras to "GMW's" (BMW) sandrails etc. its basically because of the reason the ls1 was designed: flat torque curve throughout and great mpg.
make sure you get a 99 and up PCM, 98s suck. if you are going coil per cylinder, look for the new truck coils D585 or soemthing like that. i can look it up on ls1tech, but there have been multiple people doing the swap and confirmed on a back to back swap gains of 10hp and 15tq.

Yes, I'm aware of all that. I've been into F bodies for a little over a year now.

PS: Leave farm truck exhaust for the farm trucks. NO true duals is NOT the way to go on a damn near stock LS1....
