sounds like a nice project car. I personally would run a small turbo at low boost so the motor will last a awhile. get a 5spd. then do the suspension, brakes, and cosmetics. First motor then cosmetic makes for a better sleeper. add a little rust and you really turn heads. lol

sadly i don't know much about the zc, but i DO know a good clutch and good suspension can run you about $500...NOT a grand. my setup cost me 358 shipped, and i don't have shitty stuff either.

as far as the turbo kit...there are maybe 3ppl on here i'd trust 100% to do that. but those 3ppl know what the hell they're doing for sure, and i know they'd help.

Go turbo in my opinion, the powers there when ya need it and as said by a few people you can stay away from the redline and keep the motor strong running for along time. You can build a budget turbo setup for roughly $500 to $750 and as Kelly said theres a few people on here running good setups that are willing to help if asked.

Like everyone else has said turbo is the way to go on this motor. Im no engine builder by any stretch but i did alot of research before i decided to go sohc zc. Every zc builder i takled to said because of the bore/stroke on this motor it will do a whole lot better turbo over n/a. SOunds like we have similar cars. I have a 90 std.
