I posted this on the STLSR dragracing forum but I after meeting some of you guys at the track I thought I'd post it here, too. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions:
In the past, I've invited other racers to join us for the monthly trips up to Greatlakes Dragaway for Import Wars. Although a good time, we're not doing the whole series for '09. We are; however, planning a visit to Greatlakes Dragaway for a weekend of racing in two different events and there's a racing opportunity for just about everyone - fast or slow, import or domestic, FWD - AWD - RWD, slick or d.o.t.
Friday afternoon, we're meeting in Collinsville then heading out to Kenosha Wisconsin. We'll be staying at one of these hotels:

We've stayed at the Super 8 several times. It's cheap, easy to get to, safe, walking distance to a couple of bars and 15 minutes from the track.
Saturday, we'll be racing in the IMSM series:

It's a 1/4 mile index series so anybody can race (starting at 12.50 index)! There is a membership fee to race in the series but it's waived for "trial" racers. You'll have to pay it if you win money, but the payouts are good so it wouldn't be that big of a deal. You do have to pay the entry fee to race, though. Just the "membership fee" is waived for first timers. The racing looks awesome and it seems to be well organized so I'm pumped to give it a try.
Got this video from IMSM:

I'm not sure on the start time but I'll find out and post up. If for some reason it starts later in the day on Saturday, I just might leave early on Saturday and save the expense of the hotel. But I'll edit this post if that does become the case.
On Sunday, GLD holds Import Wars:

This is focused on the sport compact/tuner crowd but the Test and Tune is open to anyone so those ground pounders who might make the trip for IMSM on Saturday will still be able to play around and make passes. The downside is no chance for payouts. But what the hell, it's fun to check out a different scene. There's the typical NOPI type events, car show (never seen it), stunt bikes (never seen them), bikini contest (with some sad looking strippers) but I go for the racing which is typically damn fun.
Import Wars has several 1/4 mile bracket classes and a couple of 1/4 mile heads-up classes. Here again, there's a spot for just about any sport compact/tuner car. So bring out the slow hondas, adequate SRT-4s or fast DSMs.

We have the added treat of Bugfest on Sunday as well. There will be some old air-cooled VW's throwing down some wicked 1/8 mile times for their classes. They are not your typical beater VW's. These are some fast street and track cars.
My pal, Prescott - all motor:[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kQG7QiuabqQ"]YouTube - Underdog VW Bug[/ame]
This event starts about 9:00 and we are typically on the road by 5:00. We get home late in the evening but I've always had a good sleep before work on monday so don't let that be an issue that might impede your participation.
I know there are some interested in joining in and I'm happy to put the information out there but I'm not a tour guide. I get nothing for taking folks with me so I'm pretty much going to do my thing and if you want to come along, that would be great; however, you need to take care of yourself. I'm not bringing tools and parts for you. I'm not cooking for you. I'm not letting you use my cell phone if your car breaks. While I am indeed your daddy, I'm certainly not your momma.
