At The Track Do's and Don'ts...

Post by stolle »

i thought there should be an area for the noobs at the track to come and read up on some things to prepare for their first trip to the track. ill put some things in and feel free to add things, as this grows i think it could be a valuable resource for those of us trying to get to our 1/4 times down...

do:
1. take out excess weight
2. air down your tires (drive tires) i usually start at 17psi and work my way down until wheel hop is at a minimum. i wouldnt go under 12psi though cause your tire could pop off the rim. make sure your rear tires are filled to spec 32psi cold.
3. shallow stage! only roll up far enough to just turn on the second set of staging lights. when you see the last yellow light come on (before the green light) GO!!
4. if you have street tires DO NOT go through the water box and dont do a big smoky burn out just spin them for a short time to clean off gravel debris etc..
5. if you have drag radials or slicks go through the water box and get the tires nice and hot this usually means setting the e-brake and burning out you can even burn out in 2nd gear to get them really spinning and real hot and sticky roll forward slowly out of the water box during the burn out so you dont pull up to the line with wet tires.
6. if you have adjustable struts set the front ones soft around the middle of their range and set the rears stiff as they will go. play around till you find a setting that works the best.
7. stay in the groove you will see it, its the two darkest tracks of the lane
8. the right lane exits first no matter who won if your in the left lane wait for the car in the right to exit before you do. most people dont know this so pay attention.
9. if you pop your motor or think your leaking something coolant, oil, whatever stop as fast and safely as possible and pull to the side.
10. turn your lights on if its dark, i know common sense but you would be surprised.
11. check your fluids oil, coolant, brake, slave cylinder, tranny.

dont:
1. act like a jackass
2. drive fast in the parking lot or staging lanes (this just makes you look like an ass) not only that this is a family sport and you could take out some little kid on a bike.
3. backup when your at the tree unless told to do so.
4. burn out on the blue paint thats between the lanes
5. burn out before told to do so or pull up to the lanes (watch the track officials)

eh, thats all i can think of right now feel free to comment, add, or critique...

awesome post

a few more do's

1. if you're in line and you want to race someone in particular thats not next to you, tell one of the guys directing the staging so he can have you pull off to the sideand you wait till you are lined up.

2. HAVE FUN... safely

donts

1. dont stand in the lanes with all your friends so that cars can't get by, and be courteous to the cars if your walking around... there was one time last night where i had to wait like 5 minutes to move because a line of people was crossing in front of me

2. dont leave your cars for too long if you are in the pre-stage lanes, if they send your lane and your not at your car, people get upset, and thats no fun
