The repercussions of the June 17th incident in Selmer, Tennessee are already being felt at Gateway International Raceway. The track’s insurance carrier has now enacted tighter security restrictions on and around the starting line and burnout areas. GIR officials recently applied new striping in the affected areas and the new rules were in play beginning with the Super Series event on Friday, June 23rd.
The new Restricted Areas are marked with a yellow boundary line at the track and on the accompanying illustration. The new tow vehicle access area is marked in green on the accompanying illustration. The new (and strict) policies are as follows:
Tuesday Events:
No crew member will be allowed to the starting line with the racing vehicle. All crew members must stay outside the marked boundaries of the Restricted Areas.
Wednesday, Friday and Saturday Events:
One crew member may accompany each car into the Restricted Areas. All other crew members must stay outside the marked boundaries of the Restricted Areas.
All tow vehicles must vacate the Restricted Area and may only park on the left (west) side of the return road.
Minors 14 years old or younger are prohibited from all Restricted Areas unless they are within the confines of a tow vehicle. Minors 15 years to 17 years must complete and file Waiver #MS-N (available at the track) to gain access to Restricted Areas.
