Yes I would put the valve cover back on to keep any debris or anything of that nature from getting into the valvetrain. Might want to bolt back on the dizzy as well so you dont misplace the bolts or have it flopping around in the bay while hauling it to Rick's.

Note you said it broke the timing belt, but the belt appears to be on it and at least partially tensioned in those pictures?

thats what happens when you take it to shops where both the sales people and mechanics are on commission

I've never seen a broken timing belt have enough tension to lift up the camshafts out of the head with the cam caps removed. Looks like you were getting hosed.

Shit happens when you don't keep up on the maintenance of your car.

looks like the intake valves in cylender 1 are possibly bent

and to bob wouldent the valve springs do that granted a good timing belt would hold one side down
so far behind im ahead of the pack.

we havent looked at the car yet because matt's on vacation, but i know on my prelude it bent half the valves and the timing belt had full tension. what appeared to happen was several teeth on the timing belt snapped off and the crank would turn but not turn the belt. not stating that this is his case, but merely noting to those who are asking about the timing belt being on there still that this could be a possibility.

Yea, jumping teeth if the belt is deteriorating or badly worn is a definate possibility. Just expected to see an actually broken timing belt given the diagnoses by that shop.
