Potential "new" car. 1965 Lincoln, barn find.

Post by RyanA »

Well, drove to see a friend today and check out the progress on his Continental. His interior is about 85% done (still has to put dash back together and put the metal fabbed kick panels in the car along with a few other little touches). Exterior is nearly vinyled (just has to do the tops of the 2 passenger doors) and everything between the fender top chrome is vinyl. The car is almost ready for paint. He has plans to put a brick wall on one side with graffiti and plans on doing a Harley theme on the other side. Black, orange, and red colors with some tribal and skulls. His car is one year older than mine, it's a 1964.

Got a bunch of pics from his factory service manual so I know how to get the carb set up, check over wiring on the car, etc. We also talked about what he did to lower the car. I'm going to do the same front drop but not drop the rear quite as far (probably 1" less). The wheels in these pics are 18's; he has 20's for it but does not yet have tires for them. Not sure if I'll do 18's, 20's, or 22's yet.

Here are a few pics I took of his car this evening:

Right now, he has the 18's off of his Impala SS on it. He has 20's that look very similar but he has not yet bought tires for them. Said he did not want to get tires only to have the car sit on them for a year or two before he may get the car done. He does drive it the way it is every once in a while just to keep everything lubed up.

I'm thinking as long as I have 18's or larger, it should look good. I probably won't do paint on the car for at least a year. Plans in order of importance are Mechanically tip-top, drop, wheels, interior, paint. Paint is at the bottom of the list as I figure it may look pretty cool slammed on wheels but looking pretty much "barn find" otherwise.

OK, car is now at the shop. The trunk lid is pretty much TRASHED so I'll need another one. Here are some pics after I dragged it out of the barn, after it was loaded, and after I rinsed it off a bit:
