Yet another VSM hatch for me

Post by luvmyhondas »

Couple weeks ago my wife was out of town and I felt like working on something. So I dragged a B16 shortblock that I had laying around out of the corner. ForcefeD and LauraJo were hanging out Saturday so we spent several hours assembling a complete swap from leftover parts in the shop. Here's what I wound up with so far:

JDM b16a bottom end with new timing belt/water pump
b16a2 head with GSR cams and AEM cam gears
ARP headstuds and Cometic Headgasket
OBD1 Intake manifold with Hondata gasket
Blox Turbo manifold
Garrett .60/.63 turbo
Stock flywheel/ACT clutch with ARP flywheel and pressure plate bolts
Type R block to trans case brace
Stock fuel rail that I'm modifying to use an Aeromotive FPR and AN fittings.
RC 1000cc injectors (swapped my 750s with ForceFeD)

Turbo manifold and turbo.

and the OEM fuel rail with the end drilled out ready to be tapped for NPT.

and it appears that a t3 turbo oil inlet flange lines up with the stock FPR mounting...hmmm maybe a guage will make its way in there.

I'm going to remove all unnecessary water lines, vacuum ports, block breathers, etc. And as much as I hate to say it, I might mod the harness so that it can be tucked when installed.

I figured I'd better start working on getting the motivation to the wheels. I drug a S4C trans from a 99 SI out of the 'storage area'. Cleaned it up a bit to prepare for installation of the Quaife ATB differential. I took it apart to find 6 broken off teeth in the OEM diff and one broken tooth on the countershaft.

The chunks chewed up the area between the diff and the axle seal.

Can't remember exactly who I got the trans from on here, but I know it wasn't SUPPOSED to have any issues. So I'm going to reman the thing along with new synchros from Synchrotech. After it's all reassembled it will get painted to match the motor. So transmission-wise I'm looking at:

S4C trans from a 99 Si
Quaife ATB diff
Freshen up with any needed parts

Other things I plan on for this car:

Hiding/relocating the tiny battery from Shuriken
Hasport Driver's side mount to lose the 'goo' mount
Drag Launch springs on adjustables
Traction bar from ETD racing

and more that I may or may not talk about up front (at least until it's definite).

I'm going to try and use the Blox manifold with the turbo turned 180* so that I can skip notching the block. It looks like it will just clear the 1/2 radiator with enought room to get the DP past it. It will also free up space to run the charge piping by not having to run past the DP. Plus, putting a filter on the turbo is easier since it won't be crowded by the radiator fanshroud. Hopefully it will fit. I'll make my feed line from -4an braided SS line and Gates shadow series fittings. TunerToys block fitting and a McMaster Carr .063 restrictor will also make their way into the mix. I got my Synchronic Wastegate and HKS SSQV (in limited edition black of course) the other day so I'm getting closer.

OH, almost forgot, it's going into a 97 VSM hatch that will most likely get 99-00 front end with sidemarkers and a knockoff Airwalker bumper. I'm also looking into a few other exterior mods, but nothing drastic...you know, Troy Lee graphics, neon undercar kit, 19"chrome wheels, MoTec systems exhaust, etc.

Added some pics of the transmission damage.

Tonight I had some time so I got my valve cover out and got it stripped down and ready for powdercoat. As you can see there are 2 -10AN fittings welded in and the stock breather port has been deleted. I haven't decided on a color yet, but I've been looking for the match for Honda crinkle blue.

Not bagging on him, just making a quick joke. I guess you would take it less serious(beacuse we all know the internet is always serious business) if I added something like :guitar: or :balloons: or maybe :bouncy:
