My new car... meet Roary

Post by Midori »

Yeah I have a jdm cat not a usdm cat so finding a jdm lenght test pipe is hard because everyone has discontinued theirs. And I bought the cat specifically to make the exhaust louder. As much shit as you guys have given me for not buying the parts YOU would buy to make more power should show you that I still don't care as much as you do.

I support your build. I'm just stating that I've heard about test pipes hurting the valves. That's all, I mean you spent good money on GREAT oil and everything to keep the engine safe and to run extremely well... You don't drive it hard either, so I know you love the engine and want to take care of it.

I'm just stating a fact on a part that could hurt the engine.

Once again, and like I have said through out this thread... Awesome build and I love this car.

okay then, explain to me what you mean by "hurt" the valves? and you said on "stock motors" like after market valves wont be hurt by running a test pipe.. because aren't you still running the HKS strait up to the header?

These are things that I have heard over the years and I've heard it hurts the valve seals. I don't use a test pipe, I did one time on the old B16 in the black car.

It's your car. You do what you want. Sorry for trying to bring something to your attention.

car looks great man. i actually LOVED the way your car sounded at the autocross, nice and quiet. to each his own though, so do what you will. i guess running a 3" exhaust kinda burnt me out on the loud crap...

you dont use a "test pipe" but the exhaust you have is for a CX/DX hatchback and you have that GT spec header, you arent running a cat, CORRECT? its the same concept. and the things you are, bringing to my attention, arent facts and youve given no reference to the means of their validity.

DC_T! yeah it sounds good, i am happy with the way it sounds, just want a little more tone out of it, i honestly dont expect it to get much louder, jdm type r cats have the least amount of catalyst in them i have ever seen in a stock catalytic converter so removing that 4 total inches of blockage should give me the tone im looking for, i REALLY wanted the T1R "race cat" but its discontinued, its just a resonated test pipe. also Password made a "tru2form" resonated, adjustable test pipe but they no longer do =(

I'm not running a cat since I couldn't get it to bolt up. I used the "straight pipe", if you will, that came with the Hi Power. So yes, you are correct.

Like i said, these are stories I heard years ago and I never took the time to look it up since I prefer not to use them. This topic came up and I thought I'd share that info.

Now that I see that it was just a rumor / bullshit, since I got online tonight to actually do some research and found nothing, I retract my comment about the test pipes and I apologize to you sir.

Enjoy your build because I know I will as well.

"Straight pipes" and "test pipes" are the same thing. both delete cats.
