new life for the hatch...again

Post by DC_T »

welp, its been a while since i posted some updates, but, its alive! car is running, i finished the tuck (thanks trost) and fixed the few leaks i had today. i'll try to post up some pics tonight or tomorrow. hopefully i'll be able to get it in to have it tuned pretty soon. i didn't really get to do all the stuff i wanted to, mostly because of time/budget/priorities, but oh well. i'll be happy if i just can get it running strong and back on the road!

so, i'm working on a deal to get my brother's old school dc twin loop off his EK to go onto my hatch. hopefully i can get that done soon and i'll be running this header w/ a twin loop dc catback. i've got a lot of other things i would have liked to have done as well, but like i said before, stuff happens and you don't always get what you want. for now, this setup will be fine for what i'm going for. in the future, the header will be on, the catback, v-stack, and maybe some other goodies. i'm actually kind of interested to see what the difference in hp would be between a stock header/exhaust/ebay intake, vs the 4 to 1 2.5" collector header w/ the dc catback and a v-stack, so maybe stay tuned and i'll post some numbers to see what i gained.

thanks for looking!

So, should we expect to see you come out and hang out with us a little more often since we rarely see you currently.

Yes, I understand that you have the house, and the girl... and blah, blah, blah. lol
I'm still a neighborhood ASSHOLE!

Not exactly positive, but I think it was just taking longer than expected.

lol, i've been pretty much putting off the house, and the girl, and the blah blah for about a year now to get this damn thing together, but yeah...i'll try to come out more now... :icon_smurf:

well, so far it seems like the bottom end is ok, i guess i'll see once i get it on the dyno and tuned. i only really had a few issues w/ him. one, like trost said, it just took a long time. he originally said it would be 4-5 business days, which is a pretty quick turnaround, and faster than i expected honestly. that ended up stretching to a little over a month though. partly because he was waiting on rod bearings from honda, but that only took about a week. i really just think he semi-forgot about it while i was out of town and when i got back, 7 days after he had said 4-5, he hadn't started on it yet. so, it was a little frustrating, but not a huge deal. the other issue was i had asked him to check all my tranny bolt holes on the block because i was pretty sure the threads were bad. well, he said he ran a tap down all of them and only had to helicoil one, so i was like, oh, ok, cool. well, in reality, 3 of the 5 were bad, and the one he helicoiled, he put the helicoil in wrong (somehow, i'm not sure how he managed to do that though). so i had to go out and drop about $80 on a 12x1.25 helicoil kit and fix it myself. pretty frustrating at the time and i would have liked to have taken the block back down there and asked him wtf happened, but it was already 90% together and an assembled longblock isn't the easiest thing to pick up and put in the back of a truck, not to mention i didn't want to end up w/ it down there for another month. all in all, jim was a cool guy, and i think he felt bad for it taking so long so he gave me a deal on the work...which i promptly had to turn around and spend on the helicoil kit.
