I tucked AJ's unicorn hatch through the center in the heater core hoses went . I also did a full tuck on bryan( orange94hatch) we went through a hole in the firewall to the left of the heater core hoses. We also retained the SRS with his car. Let me know if you need any help chris.
good idea man, i will look into that.

and yes, i may be getting ahold of you for some tips on how to do this. thanks for offering up some help!

new life for the hatch...again

its been a looong time since my last update, but i finally got a little done. i ordered some nice loom from cableorganizer.com, and made a quick run up to gateway electronics (thanks andyjt) and picked up some loom, shrink wrap, and other random stuff. after a few weeks working on it a little each night, this is what i got so far...

main harness before:

now:
i'm mostly happy with it, there are a few things i would do different if i was to do it again, but, overall i'm satisfied. i used black electrical tape on some of the loom instead of heat shrink, but i didn't really want to unecessarily cut too many wires just so i could slip some heat shrink over the loom. oh well, let me know what you think

i still have to finish the loom. i want to run it on the back of the block before i finalize anything, its just too freakin cold out to go outside and mess w/ it. and, i have to figure out how exactly i'm going to run it through the firewall, so i'm hesitant to finish that half too.

tools of choice:

old school heat gun...but free :wink2:
and this bad boy gets unbelievably hot. i learned the hard way when i fried some loom i had on some wires

passenger side headlight harness:

mostly ran, gotta trim up the loom. i can't really finish this till i get the headlights and stuff back in.

soon to be new hole for main harness:

i have a little time off work for the holidays, so i'm hoping to get some more stuff done. i'll try to update if i do, and hopefully its a little more exciting than this crap.

thanks for looking

You could have issues with the wiring going straight down into the door boot. Water can get inside and just follow the wires into the car. If you can, route the pass. headlight harness up into the door boot if you didn't plan to already.

can you explain what you mean by "up into the door boot"?

honestly, since this isn't my daily driver, i don't really plan on ever having this car out in the rain, but i'd rather not have to deal w/ stupid problems down the road.

water can follow the wires into the car from the door boot here.

It has happened to me before.

what rick ment was ...

instead of just pulling the door boot (rubber grommet the wires that run into the door go through) out and letting it hang there thus leaving a big open hole water can run into when you wash it (and then run down and into your ecu).

Put the grommet back in the hole and then run your new wires through the grommet, that way the hole is still sealed and nothing will leak into it

but thats just a guess

ok. thats the way i have it right now. i just put a small slit in the grommet and ran the wires through it. when i finish it, i plan to tape of the end of the loom and wires up to the grommet.

so you are just saying to have a small dip/slack in the wires before it enters through the boot so the water will drip from the lowest point (the dip) ? i guess that makes sense. thanks for the suggestion.
