Weighted Shift knob??

While I don't have one, it seems to me, the advantage is: Initial Strength/Launching the shifter. Whereas, you'd need to exert continual and controlled effort each shift normally. The weighted knob lets you just use a burst of strength, then using the inertia to "slap" the shift in for you.

I've been driving honda 5-speed cars for over a decade now. Last month was my first experience with a weighted shift knob (installed a junk2 10th anniversary knob I got in trade). I was totally surprised at how nice it feels. I had a short throw once and hated that so I always assumed I would also hate a weighted shift knob - boy was I wrong.

Not sure if the thread pitch/diameter is the same, but factory Miata shift knobs are weighted, and they aren't metal so you won't toast your hand on it during a hot summer day.

Edit - Just weighed mine, '99-'00, 185g. I guess that's too light.

Just drove my hatch last night with the new weighted shift knob and it was an amazing difference. Don't think I will ever go back.

Gotta agree. I put one in the del sol about a month ago. Other than scorching heat I love it.
