Subwoofer not hitting hard and amp goes into protection mode

Volume turned up to a little loud and the sub sounds like shit and the amp then goes into protection mode. I have a single 10" Rockford fosgate dual voice coil 2 ohm 400rms 800 peak. Wired up for 4 ohm. My amp is a power acoustik crypt 900 2 channel. At first I had the sub wired wrong but fixed it. My question is why does this p3 sound shitty?

In my trunk. I have my seats down, didn't have this issue when I had the 2 10" kickers last week

Just checking. Air flow is always the first thing I check when an amp goes into protection mode. Second is wire size, third is solid grounding.

Im just wondering why it's doing it now. Was fine before with te other subs

I might guess you are putting 900 peak wats through an 800 peak watt sub? What is RMS on the amp?

I am thinking damaged voice coils.

400rmsx 1 at 4 ohm bridged.

I hope the voice coils aren't damaged. Although I did have it hooked up wrong for a few. It was only working one voice coil...
I just got this thing I'll be pissed if it's bad

I have it wired in a series I believe. Positive from left vc to positive on amp, negative on right vc to negative on amp, and connect the negative from left to positive on right

Got a cheap pioneer sub from Walmart to replace te busted kicker I had before. Now I have it and the other kicker and sounds really good. I guess I messed up the voice coils or something
