questions about 1990 accord

Post by spoonracer87 »

Okay so heres the deal i have a chance to get a 1990 sedan dx accord 5speed.

after a little research here is what i know so far: They came with a F22a1 engine,125hp stock the prelude uses a slightly more agressive tuned computer that is supposedly plug and play for this motor(please correct me if iam wrong.) and a 86mm bore x 95mm stroke at 8:8:1 compression.

what id like to know--Is the f22a1 a ok platform to build off of?-im not looking to do anything crazy small drop/rims/some brake work as far as engine goes just bolt ons intake exhaust maybe some headwork, ecu swap if what i said about the prelude above is correct. would all this be worth it on the f22? i know alot of people like to swap a h22 in but this will be a daily driver so im not wanting to do a swap.

Cliff notes: thinking of getting a 1990 accord, wanting to know if the stock dx f22a1 is a fairly decent motor to do some minor upgrades because i dont want to do a swap.

any suggestions, comments and if i have any of my facts wrong please let me know thanks.

It really depends on the vision you have for the car. That generation Accord is a nice car IMO. Engine options range from SOHC VTEC (F22/F23) swaps to DOHC VTEC (H22) and I think K-swap kits are available from Hasport now.

They are comfy and I like the looks. I believe things like rear disc brakes are available as cheap upgrades from the EX models. Downside to wheels is that the bolt patter isn't 4x100 but like 4x114 or something like that so not too many OEM wheel options available like there are with Civics/Integras.

Compression on F22A1's I believe are only 8.8:1 so it would be good for a turbo'd application. There are alot of Accord enthusiast resources so just Google and read up.

Overall, I like 90-93 Accords and would drive the shit out of one.
