New struts or have shop install?

Post by 5thgen »

I've done it for millions of years that way.

I may have some scars....but none are from shock nuts.

Common sense will go a loooong way. Even when using the "blanket" method.

And as far as most hondas are concerned, you could take the shock bolt off first and raise the car slowly to decompress the spring. I've never done it that way, but it would work and keep the spring wrapped around the shock no matter what.

I take the strut off the car. Lay it flat on the ground. Step on the spring, and zip the nut off with the impact. No drama involved.

Exactly what I did when I swapped out for coilover sleeves on stock struts. Worked fine for me this way.

Where you live at? I had an air compressor and a spring compressor and still didnt get the nut loose at all :(.
What tools do you use? Bc I had a lot of tools lol.

Yes I know not using a spring compressor is like playing with your life, I used the spring compressors, good ones I might add.

It'll spin on the car or off the car. I haven't had a problem getting the top nut off with an impact. The shock still spins a little bit, but not enough to keep the nut on it.

Do not use an impact on the strut as it will damage the strut internally. Using a spring compressor and the proper tools works every time. You can rent a spring compressor from AutoZone for free.

well i even tried using an impact and the spring compressors and it just kept spinning and spinning. even used all my weight holding the torx bit with a 1/4 drive and using a ratchet with the o2 sensor socket and didnt budge at all.

waiting to hear back from 06sik20z3 about installing the fronts for me.
