Subwoofer and Amp question

Post by sirricealot »

I just picked up 2 of these..

KICKER SUBWOOFERS

What size amp would be good to power these and not blow them or underpower them? Most likely a 2 chan amp.

Im also unsure if i'll do two seperate 10" box for each of them or a dual 10" box.
its going in a cobalt coupe's trunk for now.
I'll have an enclosure custom made most likely if i get a vette coupe.

Main question is what Wattage should I be looking at for both of these?
they are 150w rms 300w peak each.

Thanks!

You have 2 choices, you can get a Mono amp that does 300RMS at 2 ohm, or a 2 channel amp that does 150x2 at 4ohm.

Since you bought kicker, from best buy, and I work for best buy, this is a quick amp that comes to mind.

Its rated at 250rms at 2 ohms, but kicker amps put out a little more power than rated, they will come with a birth certificate to say how much they truely put out. This amp would be a good match to your 2 subs.

I may look into getting that.
I was looking for cheaper though, i've never had issues with amps.
Any other suggestions on amps?
Thanks for all the help

I was looking at this one. I've had them in the past and worked great.

According to the specs it will work. If it actually does what it says it will.

i'd have to use the 4ohm x 2.
I hope it works lol. I'll probably order it.
I figured they arent really high powered so it should work. I had one 12" compvr running on the dual amp from walmart before.
I had a 1000watt profile amp that was amzing until it fell off the back of my hatch when i had the integra, i could have soldered new rca's on but decided to junk it.

I bought an 8gauge amp wire kit the other day really cheap, thats gonna work right?
not sure what wires i have laying around so i had picked up a cheap kit

Good 8gauge is fine. Cheap 8 gauge may be more insulation than wire, so just be careful.

Wouldn't necessarily say that was following Kolk's advice of being careful.

Pretty sure my friend ordered that kit a while back and the wiring was crap.

Just make sure to inspect it.

i already had ordered it last week lol.
if its crap ill use what i can and search through the stuff i have at home already. my battery is in the trunk so i wont need that long of a power wire.
I'll probably purchase that 900 watt power acoustik, looks like it would do the job well.

thanks
