Deep Web, you've been warned.

Post by ryansDc5 »

Basically, the deep web is like this. Imagine the internet as the ocean, imagine you drag a net over the surface of the ocean, yeah you're going to get some stuff in that web. Now imagine what you didn't get in the web, that's the deep web. The deep web is a internet that isn't accessible by normal search engines, because it's basically hidden. I thought it was cool because so much stuff is out there that you can't see unless you try, or have the right tools. Some stuff you'll find is crazy as fuck, other stuff is just mind blowing. I found a website that sells pretty much any kind of drug imaginable, as well as other sites that you can hire people to "take care" of other people, if you catch my drift. As well as stuff you just don't care to see.

The best way to put it is this, "Even the best search engines can access only about 16% of the available information on the World Wide Web. Therefore 84% of the information is excluded. That 84% has become known as the Invisible Web. Put another way, the size of the Invisible Web is 500 times larger than the Surface Web."

I don't know what all is there, or if you'll get your identity jacked or other things, but I just thought it was cool enough to pass along. Here is an explanation to it.

http://www.reddit.com/r/todayilearned/c ... ns_and_how

Background - The so called "Deep Web" is the name of the part of the internet that is not indexed by search engines. It is made to be browsed anonymously and therefore you can only access it by a specific method (see below). It uses mainly .onion URL extension and random combinations of letters and numbers for the domain name.

Content - The deep web contains almost everything, if you have the time to look for it. Content on the deep web can be generated per query, and therefore the amount of content it actually has might be greater than you might expect. However, when you combine a completely anonymous way of access and the internet, you obviously end up with a lot of child porn, illegal drug trade, hiring of trained killers, etc. But, if you ignore that stuff, you can find a lot of interesting topics here, and it is also a good way to get a status update on the armpit of society. The main access route to the deep web is known as "The Hidden Wiki." It contains most of the .onion links that you will need to go skinny dipping in the shark tank known as the internet.

Access - Accessing the deep web is entirely up to you. I went on for the first time today, and so far have not had my identity stolen, and no police have shown up at my door. Maybe I am just lucky, maybe this is how it always is. I do, however, HIGHLY recommend you check this place out. It is very interesting, and you get to venture in to a brave new world full of things that will both shock and intrigue you.

With that said, here is all you need to access the deep web:

Tor Browser: https://www.torproject.org/download/download.html.en (download the Tor Browser Bundle)

The Hidden Wiki: http://kpvz7ki2v5agwt35.onion/wiki/index.php/Main_Page (once you have Tor up and running, enter this link in to the browser and prepare yourself)

Enjoy yourself, and remember: STAY SAFE! I cannot stress that enough. I do not know how dangerous this place is, but I do know that bad people lurk around there. Just try not to get too involved with whatever "community" you may find, and you should be fine.

TL;DR, but i am assuming you are talking about Tor and onion routing?

I think most people are aware there is more to the internet then they can see and chose to turn a blind eye to it. I know its there and dive into it when needed(mainly for IT security info) but really its nothing special.

yeah, zach that's pretty much the tl;dr version of it. I just thought it was crazy the kind of shit you can find on the internet that is there if you really dig for it.

I'm too big a pansy ass to search the "hidden web". Why? Because I'm super ass paranoid that I'll accidently access some crazy kiddie porn or some other illegal activity and get arrested and locked up for something stupid.

Paranoid a bit, yes I am

The other 84% is the matrix, where we live every day.

Watch out for deja vu.
