Anyone here ever bought or traded for a car then had the title mailed to them?

I'm supposed to pick a car up Tuesday be the guy never titled it in his name/never registered it. I was thinking I type up a contract we both sign it and there will be 2 witnesses also to sign it also. Any ideas from anyone who's ever done that before would be awesome. Thanks

No don't do it. You wait until he has the title, you are just asking for possibly a world of trouble if you trade without getting the title first. I would not trust all the work you put into something, to a piece of paper that wasn't drawn up by a lawyer. If he really wants your car and he really wants to do a legit trade he will get the title first.

I have had a title mailed to me but my situation was vastly different from yours. From what it sounds like you should just wait until he has the title. I have always thought that it is a much safer bet legally to have possession of the car's title before (or at the same time) the actually car itself, this will save you from a lot of headaches that could happen. This situation seems extra shady by the fact that the current "owner" doesn't even have it in his name. Do yourself a favor and wait until everything is legit.

Definitely wait. Or you could wind up in a situation that Bryan (orange94hatch) is in. A car without a title and can't get ahold of the guy. The car ended up being completely parted out. It was an 99 Si too.

Yeah we just moved the date back till he gets it. He was cool about moving it back

im sorry but she is fucking dumb, you trade for a car with no title, drive it to a meet, and then some dude shows with the title with his name on it and shes swearing its her car? she had that coming IMO. if someone stole my car you bet your ass if i saw it at a meet and recognized something that placed it as mine id do the same thing. why you would trade for a car with no title is beyond me anyway, you cant legally get it licensed and drive it IIRC.

smart move......even if you did do the contract thing, if it wouldn't have went according to plan you would have had to go to court and it would have been a joke.
