Welder in the metro east? (semi urgent)

Post by JVolsch »

Looking to see if anyone knows a welder that could do a quick spot weld for me. My "new" cars ball joint was welded to the lower control arm by izzy and the weld has cracked. Due to this the ball joint has a ton of slop and I am unable to get it aligned/ am now worried about driving back to Wisconsin.

I am looking for someone that can just do a quick spot weld (either tonight 7/1 or sometime tomorrow 7/2). M6speed currently has a text out to someone in Collinsville, which is preferred, but I want to make sure all of my bases are covered.

I'm pretty positive that it is cast iron (may be aluminum), but checking some forums to double check.

You don't have a pic of the cracked weld, do you?

I would think that is a lot of load on the ball joint to hold it with a small weld....unless it just keeps it from moving side/side and not up/down.

I don't have filler for cast iron......main way of welding cast (that I've read) is with nickel filler.

With it cracked it is just moving from side to side. Both are indeed steel and not aluminum. I will see if I can grab a picture. Essentially it is cracked at the bottom of the weld, where it contacts the lip of the ball joint.

Steel I can do.....make sure it isn't cast though. I have not dealt with cast iron.

And do you have a 230v outlet where the car is?
