Enlarged aortic root, if not fixed, it could burst and he would bleed out..FenianFit;219296 wrote:Damn. Do you know anything more specific?
Edit: I don't want to seem rude by asking, but I need to have an EKG every year, so this sort of stuff freaks me out.

Hey guys and gals .. first off i want to thank everybody for the support .. this is my first major surgery i have ever had and honestly I'm scared shitless about it.
What im having done is Aortic root replacement
http://my.clevelandclinic.org/heart/dis ... ctual.aspx
This 100% open heart surgery, using a valve sparing procedure to replace a section of the aortic root that is enlarged due to a genetic defect i apparently have. I was diagnosed with this issue a few moths back after having a procedure done when i was suffering from A-fib (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atrial_fibrillation) back in September. They originally went in to fix the A-fib issue and found out i was suffering from the enlarge aortic root issue at that time.
The Dr. i am using for the surgery is THE top doc in the nation for this procedure and he has personally done over 900 of the with a 99% success rate. Dr. K (Nicholas Kouchoukos, MD) is a pioneer in the field and come HIGHLY recommended by his peers and by my personal Dr. These facts are helping me put aside ALOT of the fear i have but i am still very nervous obviously.
Basically the time frame for this is as follows:
Tuesday Feb 9th
6:00am get prepped for surgery
7:00am get wheeled into the OR and put under
1-3:00pm Aprox 7hrs later i should be moved from the OR to intensive care unit
*sometime over the next cpl hours as long as my body is able to take back over i will be removed from the breathing machine and i should be breathing on my own if things go right*
Wed feb 10th
*at some point in the am i should be woken up to be cleaned up and be forced to move around as long as my body is responding and starting to heal and recoup correctly, basically they want patients to be up and moving around ASAP as long as they are up to it*
Figure ill be sleeping ALOT and on ALOT of pain killers lol
Friday Feb 12th
*If things are going good so far ill be moved for the ICU to a normal hospital room for a soft recover for up to 5 days depending on how things are going so far and pending no complications*
Monday Feb 15th
*At this point i should be home (my parents place for a few weeks) and this should start my recovery period which should be approx 6-8 weeks with a max 10 week recovery just for the breast plate to be fully healed, also obviously at this point im sure ill be back on line and needing ALOT of entertainment from all my friends lol*
Well that's the run down basically .. im down for the count for a min of 4 weeks till anybody will see me out in public again...
Thank you everybody again
