Almost Civic-less...

Post by RyanA »

Well, my Civics have dwindled to nearly none. Figured I may as well sell off some stuff to get everything paid off but my house. Since Saturday, here is what has happened:

1. Saturday sold 98 EX coupe.
2. Sunday sold 96 LX 4 door.
3. Tomorrow or Thursday morning, the silver coupe will be sold.
4. Few weeks ago, sold my 99 black hatch.

All that leaves me for running Civics at that point will be my 97 HX coupe. I'll probably just drop it to liability and beat it around for a while.

Next project will be finally getting my white Camaro done and back on the road. Plan for it is just bolt ons. It will be stock LT1 (rebuilt), LT4 clutch (new), 6 speed trans (rebuilt), new 3.42 or maybe 3.73 rear end gears. Engine will be bolt on only (cold air, headers, exhaust, etc) as I'm wanting it to get high 20's/low 30's on highway trips. Of course, if I'm going to make it a road trip car, it WILL have a nice sounding system in it. Already have all the pieces, just need to put them in. Nice part is I still have all my wiring in the car from when it used to be together.

Why are you going with an LT1?

Because it's what the car came with from the factory. Not into all the LS1 hype. I like my quiet piston block....

Yes, I can't wait to get it on the road. If it's on the road this summer, I'll be happy as hell. Have to find some parts still (6 speed trans I can rebuild, engine harness, a few other things).

Oh yeah, just looked at your for sale thread for that car. I remembered the car having an LS1 front end but forgot it was a 94. By the "LS1 hype" what exactly do you mean? I know 30+ mpg is doable with that motor on the highway...and I'm sure you're aware of this too. And then my knowledge on the LT1 is limited but hear a lot about the optispark...is that what it is? And that being a common problem with the LT1's.

Until I can get an LS1 for LT1 prices, I will stick with my LT1. I've built quite a few LT1 cars that held their own quite well. The Optispark can suck but I fix that problem by converting to coil per cylinder. Optispark is really only a problem if you like to run through huge water puddles or pressure wash it off directly. They also fail if the water pump starts to leak due to their crappy location. LT1 6 speed cars commonly get 30-31 on the highway. I like the instant torque of the LT1, too. Part are cheap and readily available. LS1 parts are readily available but not nearly as cheap.

And like I said, I prefer to have an engine without piston slap issues. The clacking and knocking would drive me crazy. Yes, the LS1 is bad ass but I'm happy with what I have.
