Need some ideas for landscaping my yard...

Post by g-mo »

Since I'll be finishing up my basement project soon I figured I should start planning for my deck/landscaping for spring/summer. I'd like to wrap the deck around to the back of my garage. I'm open to any other ideas.

Tree's(that is just to desolate), some kind of retaining wall in the front, bushes/shrubs, flower's, fencing if you need it. Me personally would put a garden of some sort, but that is just me.

What type of deck you going for? Wood or that plastic crap?

PVC decking. I want no parts of staining anything. I'd like to do trees, it's just a question of where. Definitely don't want them close to the house.

Ewwwwwwwwww pvc decking..lol. Well this is coming from a painter, i prefer to have a wood decking, and stain and finish it. They look so bitch done the right way, and the cusomer is always happy he didnt go plastic, lol.

Yea definitely don't want to over do it with tree's, I would say like 2 in the back, and one in the front, or two very small tree's in front.

first and foremost, fencing. closing in the property will make your property value skyrocket. excellent for re-sale, esp if someone comes along w/ family, dogs, planning either, etc.

i need more info as to what you want the purpose of the yard to be, to offer further suggestions. are you wanting it for entertaining, privacy, outdoor activities, field to mow, etc?

nice house btw.

Thanks. Here's the plot plan btw. I like to entertain. I have had some visions of a big stamped/paver patio beyond my deck with a sitting/firepit area. As you can see from the plot I have no room in the front for a tree. I'd like to keep it small up there due to the yard size.

your talking about the maintenance free stuff? be prepared to shell out some $$$$$$$$ i have done quite a few of those. some people are love it and some people love wood. some of the maintenance free stuff looks WAY better than the others. what kind are you going to be using? wood grain? or just smooth?
i may not be "logical" but at least i can change my oil...

well. i guess ill step in here. you want a nice live-able space with a lot of room to have fun in. OK, first step know your budget. second with the grade of yard you have it will make things interesting none the less. i would put a fence same as deck material. just to keep the flow going. adding beds for bushes and misc plant life would kill some space. if your going to landscape around close to the house do not put a veining plant it will grow under your siding and eventually brake it.

i would look into knockout roses there quite maintainable and moderate on cost. also they are a great for looks and protection. also they don't have all the common flaws that most roses have.

i would also put in a tier in the back yard if it was mine to brake up the area. and to help with lost of soil from the house.

also note during the day how much sun does the area get. its very hard to get a full sun area in maintenance free plants.

trees are costly and grow slow.

bushes grow fast and can be trimmed easily try looking at burning bushes. if you could find a way to get a top side view of the property and post it up i can do some ruff sketches since i used to do that for a landscape company.
You can talk shit all you want! eventually noone will care about your input. :yo:

The PVC I want is actually cheaper than the Ipe wood I was originally looking at. I would never do cedar/pressure treated decking. It looks terrible after a few years and requires more maintenance than I want to deal with.
